Almost a new guy
So Im new to forum but I dont own a RX8, I might though.
I keep looking at the negatives of this car but I keep going back to its gorgeous looks and its rwd. Plus a "sedan".
I know people ask these questions all the time but every car is different.
Since you all know this car up and down. What it be a good car to buy?
The price is too high for car but I only found 3 rx8 in 100 mile radius from a dealer.

Right now I have a 2009 cobalt LT, wasnt my choice for the car. Im a college student so I have a budget. Reason why I want to get rid of my car is 1. its an automatic 2. theres no transmission mounts for automatic cobalts so lowering will break my axles 3. moding would be too expensive to even noticing since its a 2.2 (base cobalt)

1) That RX-8 is overpriced by 2-3k UNLESS it has a great compression engine. Then maybe only overpriced by 1k.
2) If you think Cobalt mods are expensive, you have zero chance of affording mods to the 8.
3) What is your budget for normal maintenance items and gas? Those alone will probably exceed the modding cost of the Cobalt.

No cobalt mods are not expensive. Just actually making the engine handle the power. The 2.2 are weak engines. The car fax looks like it's been managed very well. I live mile away from work.

You do realize that getting more than a 10-15whp boost out of the RX-8 is pretty much jumping to at least a $10,000 price point, regardless of which way you go?
Pretty sure the Cobalt beats that in price.
You will need the compression test for the engine and as much information as you can of the actual history from the prior owner. If you can't get that history, you can expect to immediately need to replace the coils, plugs, wires, clean all the grounding points, clean the MAF and ESS, reset the ESS profile, replace the transmission and diff fluid, replace the coolant, probably replace the coolant bottle tank, thermostat, and radiator, possibly replace all radiator hoses, and clean the OMP lines. If you do all the work yourself and shop smartly, you can do all that for around $1,000. Getting the history from the prior owner will only mitigate the above list on the points you know for sure that the prior owner handled within a reasonable mileage or timeframe. Each other point will still remain for a 115,000 mile RX-8.
This is assuming that the engine compression test came back with good results. And all of this is irregardless of the price point you buy it at.
Carfax won't give you the information you most desperately need to know.

Thanks for the info. It's like that for any high mileage car but I'm gonna put that more into consideration.
