Is borla true 3 inch

Even though borla haves the two 2.25 outlets is it technically still a true 3 inch exhaust system since it has 2 outlet which equals just as much exhaust exiting space as 3inch if not more?

Doesn't even matter. It's not like an exactly 3" exhaust is the magical number to unlock horsepower.

The exhaust tips don't matter, you should be looking at the diameter of the pipe coming from the engine.

no i wasnt talking about the tips..the tips are 3.5..the outlet leading to the tips from the canister muffler are 2.25 which is essentially 4.50 of exiting space while true 3 inch is 6..but o well i dont have FI anyway

it's 3" I just swapped my clutch and was playing around with my exhaust while it was off.. it's 3" from the cat back to muffler where it gets split into two 2.25 inch pipes, I would call it true 3"

3 inch diameter = about 28 sq inches of flow area.
2.25 * 2 = about 30 sq inches of flow area, so you have about the same flow speed through the whole exhaust. You're fine with that.
3 * 2 = about 56 sq inches of flow area, a bit overkill for 230hp IMO.

Doesn't matter, you are limited by the flanges.

How do the flanges limit air flow?

Because the flanges choke the inner diameter of the pipe, and, as Bernoulli pointed out:

Bernoulli Equation

Also, the way the exhaust gasses exit the combustion side of the engine are so restrictive that you could run a "True" (cough-BS-cough) 3 inch exhaust and gain absolutely nothing in flow. Furthermore, there a LOT more variables to consider than the inside diameter of the pipe when it comes to engineering a good exhaust. So, like I said before - it doesn't matter. Having a "true" three inch exhaust just gives you bragging rights over kids who don't know better. As proof to this concept: there are boosted cars in this club with a stock exhaust, and a lot of ricers out there with obnoxious exhausts - Probably all "true" three inchers.

I use to have an old GMC p/u with the big block and the stock exhaust was a single 2.5 tail pipe, installed headers with a 2.75 dual exhaust and it felt I lost power (torque). Plus my mileage went from 13 mpg to 10 mpg. It sure sounded nice though.
