Anyone purchased second hand RX8 housings from atkins ?

Not really sure where to put this, was wondering if anyone has picked up any of the used RX8 housings they are selling ? They say they have been used for one race season and are in mint condition, are they worth $350 each ?

It's Atkins... hard to go wrong with them. I follow them on Facebook... the Mrs is just as busy as the Mr keeping that business going!

I say go for it.

If you're unfamiliar with NASCAR, you might think that the rac*ing season never ends. After all, NASCAR is all over the air waves on Saturdays and Sundays, not to mention throughout the week on ESPN and the SPEED network. To the casual observer, NASCAR racing may seem like a perpetual sport with no end in sight.

Actually, NASCAR does have a defined season, albeit a long one -- 38 races spanning 10 months. The race season starts in February and ends in November every year. And you thought Major League Baseball (MLB) had a long season -- baseball season is only seven months long.
Now that's NASCAR and it's pretty safe bet Atkins doesn't have NASCAR housings LOL. You'd need to know exactly which circuit they follow and look up its schedule. I do not know... there are a few.

we go from February to December, although perhaps the question is more like what kind of racing.

the whole battle of the imports drag racing season is >15 minutes of run time, while our road racing season is about 20 hours plus there is a 25 hour race at the end, so it can be pushing 50 hours.

its not many miles, but basically 80% of it is @wot...

I would be wary honestly, the "one race season" line is common. My buddy bought some and they gave him the same story and they were questionable. He also bought cryo treated apex seals that were out of spec right out of the box. It's actually a known issue. OEM seals are the way to go.

If you are buying a used housing I would request a few high resolution pictures.

Are these the RX8 housings from Atkins your mate got ? I asked for a picture of the housings but no response still I didn't think that was asking too much, they say they are near mint, which to me is like brand new, but everyone's perception of 'condition' is different.

The housing my buddy got was unfortunately replaced by a brand new housing. It was a huge waste of time and money. They were technically usable but it's not worth the hassle for $350.00. If you know someone who is part of the Mazdaspeed Motorsports program you can get brand new housings for $580.00.

Mazdaspeed Motorsports program ? Never heard of it, sounds good though lol. Cheapest I can find is from Adam at rotaryengine.com at around 630, might just go with them, what you're saying is what I'm afraid of.

Will have a read through your build thread, looks interesting

Mazda makes the rotor housings, so the price reflects the number or middlemen, Mazaspeed motor sports is Mazda

housings are on back order until 4/23
