cobb base map question

i was about to install my cobb unit, my question is the first thing i should do it says is to load my base map to the unit. I currently have a check engine light on due to a faulty sensor. Is it still ok to load my base map to the cobb unit with the check engine light on?

Well you didn't receive a base map then. I don't think.
I have two Cobb's and don't recall such instructions.

Just marriy it up to the ecu and rock on man.
Seriously

Edit oohh I bet the previous owner bought from MM and it came with base maps.
Those would have been for his tuning service.

Yeah you don't need to worry about those at all.

Install and go

Perfectly ok if you have a valid map.

ATR download link is below if you want to work from the Cobb base map:

Hey Shell ... maybe I'm just confused or making things confusing but ...

IIRC you don't need any base map to use the Cobb.
To me the term "base map" is a very custom tuning thing (IMO when referring to the Cobb usage) as the Cobb does not give you a base map.
They have a Stock Style map, Stage 1 map, Economy Map, etc

Now some of us use the Stock Style map as a base map to start tuning with but that's way different then running MM"s base map.

I would never recommend running MM's base map if you're not actively using his tuning service. As well the OP will not be able to access MM's map to make adjustments.
Would you agree Shell? (thoughts?)

I think we need the OP to find out exactly where these "Maps" are from, Jeff (MM) or Cobb.

Since you didn't buy it direct from MM you will only have the Cobb "off the shelf" maps to start with.

I agree with wcs. I wouldn't use any map if I didn't have plans to tune it. And at that point the AP is nothing more than an overpriced obd2 reader.

srry to hijack but. Im sure Lvis would probably need to know this in the long run, as do i
question about purchasing from MM.
It says 6 month service.
& i know his maps are locked.

Basically from what I understand is that he Tunes to what mods u have.
Uploads the map & its done? u cant see it or play with it.

What if u realize down the road or even after he uploads it you want to change something yourself or play with your fuel mileage a bit.
Does he offer support on this or even is it possible to modify small changes off of his map; which would be ideal.

after i figure out the misfire ( change plugs etc...), would i be able to get rid of the p0031 code from the cobb unit without any negative side affects such as poor gas mileage?

No, and lets think about this logically.

No tuner in their right mind would leave their tune's unlocked so that someone who thinks they know what they are doing can change variables and blow their engine. Then said individual needs to only reload the existing good tune and claim it wasn't their fault and complain to the tuner who knew what he was doing that he needs to pay to replace what they messed up in their ignorance.

yeah eh. I figured that.
So what this 6 month service intends is.
if i upload a map he gives me & i want to change it.
As long as im within the 6 months he will change it?

& if so whats the service of his contact time if anyone has experience with this.
I wouldn't want to change something a Saturday morning and he returns back to me sunday night or even the week after.

Basically id like to tune myself just it would take a lot of research & thinking.
So it would be easier to just use his service.

You can feel free to tune yourself, just not using one of his base maps. His service is for very advanced tuning using hours of data logging for high HP setups and this topic has been beaten to death in other forums.

AKA search

I'm not sure what you mean by negative effects.
Sure you can clear it with the Cobb but it doesn't fix the problem and it may return right away.

You can also use ATR to mask the cell.

But that's another story

I need some advice, I bought an AP new from MM in late November 2012 and I completed my mods by spring 2013 (greddy turbo & water/ meth), the thing is when I did the mating the AP didn't recognize my 2006 JDM. I sent the rom dump to MM during his live session in Mid April with no answer or update. I asked for an update during last weeks' session to only been informed it was sent to Cobb. I called Cobb and they said they stopped supporting a while ago. I have to no clue what to do with exception of buying an emange. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Simon

I would call MM for a solution since he sold you the AP and service. The Emanage is crap. you can also checkout mazdaedit and the adaptronic ecu if MM can't get you situated. But MM should rectify the situation.

I tried messaging him and no answer, I also think his policy is not to answer calls. Its just very frustrating to reach so far to only have a yard ornament. I am optimistic that he will pull thru but really doubt it based on a positive response to date. I am prepared to look at a different system as the new emange ultimate as I have a friend who has one to sell. I agree though its not a capable unit as the AP but its just damn frustrating.

Right on the website only 2003-2004 JDM

The Cobb AccessPORT is currently available for the North American automatic transmission, 4-port and 6-port models as well as the manual transmission 6-port models, 2004 - 2008; as well as European versions, both high (6-port) and low (4-port) power, 5 and 6 speed manual transmissions, 2004 - 2008; 2005 and up Australian high power (6-port) and 2003/2004 high power (6-port) Japanese Domestic models with manual transmissions.

So what year did you indicate when you purchased the Service?
There is a difference between the 03-04 and 06+ ecu
