Ok, so I thought we should have a thread for Wilmington seeing as we are always blowing up the main North Carolina thread. There's not too many of us, but I think we should try to get together at least once a month. Anyone from Wilmington or around the area who wants to talk should do it here!

royalfitz, smokedRX8, and I met up today. Talked about our 8s for a good 2 hours or so and got some grub at Buffalo Wild Wings. Hopefully next time we can get more people together. Here are some pics:

Guys, I'm trying to resist the urge to strip my interior and go very raw. I've always had raw brutal stripped cars. Every time I go to take something out I just stare at how nice it is and can't do it but I know it's happening soon, I can feel it. I'm going to strip it out and coat the floor with rhino lining to start.

 

How much are you stripping? Are you wanting to do the whole interior or what? Stripped cars do look cool if they are built for track. Not sure how it would look on a daily driver. Might be cool though.

 

I think it would be best with my plans if I just removed everything rear of the seats and back. I'll have my new seats soon and with the harnesses and bars the rear won't be of much use anyway. I'm tinting the rear door windows and rear glass so it will be a case of out of sight, out of mind. The dash, front door panels, console and trim from the seats forward will stay. This is going to be a fairly able car. I know it won't be a very practical car for every day use but that's what I got it for and I have other cars to use daily if need be.

 

ahh im so mad that I couldn't go. the night before I had a huge loss of power, misfires, CEL came on and I parked it. ordered new coils and swapped em out this morning. and guess what happened next?!
flooded engine! finally unflooded the engine and deleted the CEL. shes running like a chamo again. ready for the next meet!

Redframe i think itll all look good, you gonna put a cage in it?

 

Not a full cage because I don't intend to have it be a full on track car. I want a good 4 point like one of these---> RX8 Interior - Mazda Performance Parts

 

It would be mostly for a bit better rigidity, harness mounts and a place to mount the gopro.

 

Glad to hear you got it worked out. It was a shame you couldn't make it yesterday, hopefully you and RedFrame can make the next one.

 

I hope so too. As it turns out the 3 inch wide strap, cam lock, super kick ***, race legal, 5 point harnesses I got aren't street legal so I had to get a 4 point 2 inch wide strap, push button type that is. Hmm...less safe...is legal..... I may work a redundant system later but since I don't have the seats in yet I have time to work it out.

 

But, thanks to my friend who is my electrical go to guy, the 110 decibel "ooga" horn works just fine.

 

I have the entire factory service manual on a cd rom in PDF format if anyone wants to download it, it saved my *** several times. I used a PDF viewer app to install it on my phone and I have it with me everywhere I go now : )

 

What's everyones schedule look like this weekend?? Anyone trying to meet up? I'm free all weekend.

Yeah, I've been wanting to go to DGRR for a long time. I have a friend who is a photographer who always does "Minis on the dragon" and I was thinking about tagging along with her for that as a tech/gear monkey because the 2 events usually overlap.

 

I really wanna go. I'm actually leaving NC in May so I want to go to DGGR and dragon's tail before I most likely never come back. so I just convinced my wife to come with me. about to book a hotel tomorrow
