Should I buy a 2004 rx8

Looking to get a car. Looking for something that looks nice and is semi fast. I have read the rx8 have engine problems tho. Should I stay away from 2004 rx8's?

I would read the sticky at the top of the RX-8 Discussion section titled "New Owners.....". It describes in great detail any and all issues with ownership of the car and fixes. It was a great help when I bought mine.

The link is also in my sig. One of the posts has the full info on compression testing, why it's needed, how it's done, and what you should be looking for.

Most places can't do a compression test on the engines since it requires different tools - will need to go to a Mazda dealer or if you are lucky, there is a rotary shop in your area. (or purchase the tools).

I would get a test on any RX-8 before you purchase. I had mine done after purchase but the engine still had warranty left.

Crap - RIWWP beat me to the post........

You don't really have to avoid the 04's, just make sure you do a compression test on the engine, if that's the only choice you have right now (budget wise).

I purchased an 04 and everyrhing has been smooth sailing since *knock on wood* but I read everything and got a compression check beforehand. If it passes the tests and has had good owners, you should be fine. Best of luck

I didn't read reviews or do any of that crap when I bought my 04, I just luckily got a second owner car with a good running original motor in it, 106,000 miles and still running strong *knock on wood*
