2005 rx8 tuning for turbo kit

I've been searching the forum and what would be the best for tuning software for a turbo rx8?

If you had searched even the slightest bit, you wouldn't be asking. There is an entire subforum Engine Tuning Forum - RX8Club.com dedcated to this, the 'best' one is the one that works for your needs. Try actually searching before starting new threads.

I am looking for advise and I still am not having any luck. Any help full advise would be appreciated. Not someone telling me to search when I already have...very immature and disrespectful.

You don't know anything about respect.

How about you respect bose and actually look at the link he gave you.

I click that link and see several threads about tuning and tuning software.

Damn man ... honestly

Your choices are limited so it won't take long for you to figure it out

Damn forum is being absolutely overrun with noobs lately

As far as asking which is the best software (face palm) its like asking which is the best oil

What are your goals?
How much do you want to spend?
Do you want a flasher or a full stand alone ECU management system?
NA, SC/TC or N2O?

You've put this in the Series 1 area but you don't seem to understand things to well ... Your choices are even further reduced if you own a Series II

Only thing I can find is accessport and mazdaedit? As for link I am not sure what you mean?

Hp goals on 7psi around 350hp? Again not familiar with these vehicles and not sure how much hp the stock motor can make (or take when it comes to forced induction)? Money being spent is of no matter I will do what it takes when it comes to tuning. I am not familiar with the terminology of flash? I am use to making tuning adjustments on 500CI big blocks and carbs? My son would normally being doing the research but he is in the military and does not have access to a computer system. So it’s left up to the old man to figure this stuff out. So please understand I don’t know how to search on these “forums” I can barely check my email… ha ha ha or as my son tells me LOL?

In advanced I appreciate those that are helping out and asking questions needed to resolve this posting and close this subject out. Thanks

350 HP is a very very rare club maybe not even done yet. Depends on what you believe.

7 psi will be hard to do if not impossible. More like 15 but that entirely up to the turbo isn't it.

You're looking at 7 to 10 k to start

Cobb should manage 300 HP +- after that you may have to look at a standalone or mazdaedit

Not your car and not your interest
Rotaries are very different
Let your son do the work when he gets back

WCS! Thank you very much i truley appreciate it and i wont bother you guys to much more... the year is a 2005 RX-8.

I know 350hp is going to be a challange but we can always run the boost up but then again i am not sure how much boost this motor can handle?

I will do some google searching for Mazdaedit or a standalone setup like ProEFI...etc.

i did have a question when you say 7-10k are you talking thousand? or 7-8 hundred USD? now is that for tuning alone or ? Sorry for being lost in the conversation.

"Upping the boost" on this engine is easy, but it always results in a blown engine. The problem is that the more power you make the hotter the side seals get until the springs under them deform, pushes them out of place, they clip the exhaust port and boom, engine done. It doesn't really matter HOW you get to that power level. Power = heat, heat = bad. There are some alternate solutions out there to mitigate this some if you pursue them when you are getting your engine custom built. Add another $7,000 to $10,000 on top of the turbo price if you are getting a custom built engine to try to handle the high power. It still won't last long.

Power in this car does NOT come cheap. See my modding thread in my sig for the basics.

i assume number "3." as i just skimmed over it and there is allot of information there.

So i know this sounds stupid but is there allot of turbo'd RX-8 (2005)? 7-10K is allot of money for not allot of HP? just trying to understand everything... this is a shock to me for tuning would cost so much the turbo side is the affordable part.

1 and 3 actually, though 1 deals with the basics of ownershop, 3 deals with the basics of modding. That should be fairly apparent.


TUNING isn't $7-10k, the whole deal is. If you find a turbo kit for say $2,000, you will spend either $5-$7k more rebuilding your engine when it pops immediately, or $5-7k more modifying the turbo kit, getting the turbo rebuild, getting all the supporting stuff working, etc... Or, you buy a complete good to go package from someone that did all the work, and your engine can't handle the power and it pops and you pay more. Or you buy a high quality engine build to begin with, and a high quality turbo package, and not have to re-do anything until that motor just finally gives out under the stress. Pretty much no matter which way you go, you are going to be spending that kind of money, and you can only have a fairly achievable target of 300whp, which is about 100whp over stock N/A.

If you buy a full stand-alone ECU that can handle it, expect $2,000+ ECU price, and $500 minimum in tuning fees. The cheapest option is to use the stock ECU and flash it with an AccessPORT, which is $500 for the hardware, and $100-$300 for the tuning. There are still limits to the stock ECU though, and finding a reliable tuner that knows both the accessport, the RX-8 ECU quirks, and MAF tuning a rotary...it will be difficult.


And yes, I repeat again, power does not come cheap in this car. It simply doesn't. You will pay through the nose for any power gains. Mazda already squeezed 200whp out of a 1.3L engine for you, going farther is painfully difficult.

very solid and makes perfect sense and this is exactly what i was looking for and thank you very much this is very good stuff here! i will start reading and my wife has printed out stuff (i can’t figure it out) so again thank you for your time! i can tell you have a wealth of knowledge with these vehicles! Thanks again your knowledge is golden!

i do like the comment about 1.3L i never looked at it that way! good point! my buddy was telling me i should jsut drop in my LSx racing block and use HP Tuners for GM cars but then i was reading about all the stuff that would have to be modified and i could only imaging how much R&D would be involved ughhh!

How many times are you going to copy and paste that info when all someone has to do is search a little.

So at point to the OP (original poster) I'm running a T04e at 11psi
I'm not making 350 HP maybe just maybe 300 at the wheel

Wcs is your motor stock...is your Turbo setup custom or ... I would live to see.pix or so you have any video. All I know is these cars are very interesting to say the least. Also if you don't mind me asking what .are housing you running on the hot side.

The VERY FIRST post in the new owner's thread is the best possible method to use for searching. Read it, re-read it. Test it out until you understand how it works. Teach yourself!

I have literally used it more than 30 times in the past hour and a half between rx8club and rx7club.

My 2 Cents

I have used the following :

Powermod from AUS.
Protuner from Aus
Cobb from US
Microtec from Aus
Mazdaedit from....... Russia ?

Of these Cobb is the best as it is easiest to use and most developed . Mazdaedit would be second and and would surpass Cobb if it was a little more developed.

The others are crap .

One stand alone that has shown it can do the job is adaptronics but i would still go for Cobb or Mazdaedit any day .

After doing my research and reading allot of information Cobb seems to be the way to go for mid to lower power range. I believe starting at low boost and gradually adding power. Till a new motor is built this will have to work on low boost.
