gas gauge is acting weird

The other night I was driving down the interstate and I hit a bumper going like 70 mph. it didnt do much damage to the body but since then my gas gauge has been slowly moving from full to empty so I dont have a clue how much gas I have. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

how hard of a bump?, did you check under the car to make sure its not leaking any gas?

and now for a smart @$# comment, you have to constantly refill the car with gas

I hit a bumper in the road it hit hard, but no its not leaking gas the gas gauge just wont read right, the needle is all over the place.
Say I have a full tank it might say I have half a tank, and then in thirty minutes it might say 3/4 then empty even though I have a full tank

I suggest getting under the car (or putting it on a lift) and looking for a dent or scrape where the bumper (an actual bumper from another car?) hit. Maybe it put a dent in the gas tank. Or damaged a wire or a ground.

the 8 has two level senders, one on each side, and it must have some logic to average the readings, so first place to look is under the car, for any damage, pay attention to the fuel line that goes between the two sides of the tank.
