Common question and trawling through I cant find specific answers.

I have a UK spec 192 ps 2006/7 reg car. 26k miles.

Just bought 500 miles ago. I know coils are generally done around 30k so, it's just started being a little rough. sounding on idle. Vibration through the stick.

Popping a touch.

Any suggestions?

 

are you noticing any hesitation at higher RPM's or just feels a little rough at idle?
do you notice the vibration is worse when the A/C is turned on and the condenser cycles on / off?

If so, I'd recommend looking at your motor mounts.

Never a bad idea to replace coils around the 30k mark but I wan to get a better understanding of what's going on before spending money on parts

 

Not too sure if it's hesitation or just lack of torque, this is my first rotary. Cant say its worse with the AC on, dont think so. It doesnt register particularly on the revmeter. Just seeing it in the gearstick. Bit of popping overrun at the exhaust, I havent checked underneath for any glowing cats yet.

Sounds a little rough after a 30 mile trip that ends in a steep down hill followed by a steep uphill. Wondering if there was any known oil starvation issues in these cases?

 

The car quit on me after a drive to work. Managed to get it dragged to Mazda nearby, got it checked. 2 coil packs down, £500 lighter but one fixed car, no other surprises. Good compression and no knackered cat. 100c (R3) coils on now so should be good for ages. 2 spare in any case as I got the working ones back.

 

You paid £500 for 2 ignition coils!!!!!?????!!!!!!!

The last time I checked 2 spark plugs from the stealerships cost as much as a set from our lovely vendors here.

 

Nah, I payed 500 for 4 coils fitted a general health check and a go on the diagnostic machine.

Could have been worse it could have been a critical engine implosion. That would have scraped the car.

I only paid £2,200 for a nice 56 reg with 26k on the clock so there is wiggle room.
