finally...credit where credit is due

Really, though, the FR-S and BRZ stand in a class by themselves. The closest car we can offer in comparison is the Mazda RX-8, which is going the way of its own ancestors. These Japanese cars share super balanced rear-wheel-drive handling in tiny coupe form that just can’t be found anywhere else in the price range. We’re glad that Subaru and Scion have decided to create this car, as it takes the place of the RX-8 as the most impressive handlers short of the Lotus Elise, for money that most drivers can afford. If you’re looking for the best, affordable way to stitch together corners in a new car, you’ve got these AE86 Toyota Corolla descendants to choose from. That’s something to be thankful for. (from Winding Road, online car mag.)

Mazda, yes times are tough, and cash is tight in Hiroshima, but sharing some cost with Fiat, let the next RX-9 share a Miata platform, stiffened up, lengthened, made a 2+2, make it more hard-core than a Miata, with unique bodywork, and of course, a rotary, and the car press will be singing this car's praises.

This car cannot be stillborn; Mazda needs an RX-9, like Nissan needs a Z, an Chevy needs a Camaro SS.
Make it happen, Mazda.

You and your 2+2. I love the fact it is 2+2 and I get more comments on that than anything. We definitely need to weld your doors shut.

If they made it a option like the fc (and one of my FC's was a 2+2) I would be cool with that. But rear doors... UGH.

Yeah, I'm glad its a 2+2, wouldn't have been able to get my 8 without it. It would be nice if the seats folded down though...but yeah the rear door and "useable" back seats were a major deciding factor in purchasing the 8. Now, once Jr. grows up and moves out, oh hell yeah, 2 seater all the way...but even still, the back seats are really no biggie

Explain.

I can think of about a dozen ways Mazda is going in the opposite direction as Toyota.
I can't think of any real similarities at all.

Aside from the fact that they both produce vehicles that have 4 tires and a steering wheel.

BC.

Why do you have the need to receive credit from some guy no different than yourself?

2+2 is what makes this car possible to be DD, for me at least... As much as I'd love a S2K and MX5, the only reason I don't is because they're only 2 seaters... That and I love my 8.

I haz a sad.

My insurance settlement just came in, i'm ready to buy a sport car, GF has approved the plan.

FR-S is ugly, BR-Z not much better.
911 996 has the exploding IMS bearing.
Not a BMW or Nissan fan.
Don't want a 4-wheel rally car.
Don't want a vette.
Don't want a convertible s2000.
3rd gen RX-7 bodys are getting pretty creaky.

Whar is RX-9, whar??

finally some brz fanboys are giving the rx8 its props. we are debating this in another thread.

On a side note though, whats your guys opinions on the mx5? Seems like brz drivers would also be interested in it because of its similar characteristics. Also, why is the mx5 not a rotarie? seems like a nobrainer....small car needs power...drop a small engine with lots of it in their?

We will see how well this torqueless BRZ does.

The Rx8 rides a bit high and still needs anti roll bars and stiffer suspension. I wonder if the BRZ comes stock the same way.

People put stiffer suspensions into Porsche's, for christ's sake.
No one's going to leave the BRZ/FR-S' suspension alone for a damn minute.
