Took it to the Dealership ... Got a Compression Test !!

Let me start by saying thank you guys for all the great information found on this forum ... You guys have saved me alot of money and time !!

I got the car in December : 04 GT MT w/ 34k on the clock.... I figured 34k its like new there is no way something could be wrong !! LITTLE DID I KNOW !!!

Car started to missfire and idle hasnt been all there .. so , thanks to this forum I learned how to change all new plugs, wires and coils .. Clean MAF sensor , Learned about Catch can ( since I noticed oil in my intake ) , got me ( and installed ) an upgraded starter and finally got a new clutch .

after all that, idle was still not where it should be ( car's idle fluctuates when stops ) so i finally took it to the stealership today to diagnose the problem and to get a compression test .

Results:

111 on the rear rotor and 113 on the front one ( i asked for a copy of results and I was told I could get one because compression test is one by hand on this cars )

and I was told I needed new motor mounts for a total of $765 !!!

I said , no thanks Ill do it myself ... Paid them their $198 for test and diagnose and drove it home..

Good or Bad compression results ?

Thanks in advance !

Sounds like they might be retarded and could have used a regular compression tester instead of a rotary compression tester... there should be three readings for each rotor for a total of 6 results.

plus a compression test is about $100, so you overpaid... id go back and address the problem asap. you did everything on your end, sounds like they are trying to avoid getting involved in a engine job. plus motor mounts should not affect idle, at all..

Thanks , I really appreciate your input... I got charged $106 for compression test and the rest was the charge to " diagnose" the idle problem..

so they charged you for both, and told you it was motor mounts, and didnt give you compression numbers? i would go back asap, and get what you paid for. motor mounts would cause vibration at idle, not what you seem to be explaining..

I will call back and ask for a FULL compression test.... in their invoice it discribes engine mounts to be bad causing the idle to be bad...

How do bad engine mounts make your idle fluctuate?

Have you been reading forums online?

tell them, oh yes, and say NYCGPS said you guys don't know **** and he can do compression for less than 1/2 of what you SUCKERS charged.

Edited : picture UPDATED !

engine mounts were the cause of your jumping idle ? mmm ... cool story bro !

111 and 113 waaaaAAT? ask those suckers do they even have the "OFFICIAL TESTER" in my pic? or if they have it, do they even know how to use it ?

cuz last I know when u do the test using the tool in the picture (the one on the left is Vacuum tester), you will see 4 numbers, 1 is your rpm (which you can normalized by pressing a button up there to 250 rpm) and 3 numbers that tells ya the "ACTUAL" compression.

111 113 ... mmm FAILED
