What shape is your ****?

I just bought a certified used 2010 Sport (manual), and it was sold to me with an oval-shaped shift ****. The few photos I've been able to find of the 2009+ RX-8s have shown rotor-shaped tops on the shift ****.

I'm sure that the R3 came with a rotor shaped ****, with red stitching. Can any owners of Sport models confirm that they came new from the dealer with the rotor-shaped ****?

Crap. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the dealer. Thanks!

If you have any problems with that dealer, Mazda has an 800 number you can find in your owners manual. Call that and complain.

It is a used car so you get it AS-IS. I highly doubt the dealership would take your used OE shift **** and then try to sell it.

Nah, nothing to be done about it. Even though it's a "Mazda Certified Used" car, it doesn't mean it has to be sold with the original interior parts. I wish I had noticed before the purchase, although I doubt they would have done anything for me.

alnielsen: Ironically, they didn't provide an owner's manual either, and that is something that they're required to provide when selling a car as certified. Mazda customer support is on the case, and the salesman has promised to order me the owner's and warranty manuals.

If it were me, I'd just buy a new OEM ****. And move on with my life. A brand new shift **** in a used car is one of those things that provides a disproportionate amount of happiness for what it costs.

To further add to the confusion... i have a **** with a white background. I think it has to do with the 40th anniversary. My old 09 S2 had a black face.

Also you need to get a 09-11(12) **** so that the R says its next to the 1. The S1 ***** have the R next to the 6.

When I was shopping for my 8, I test drove a brand new '11 Sport with 20 miles on the clock that had the non-rotor shift ****. At the time I figured it was an end-of-production part shortage, but someone here said that their even newer '11 had the rotor ****.

The '10 Sport that I did get had the rotor ****.

You didn't happen to get your car from Galpin, did you?

^its unsettlingly common that people go on test drives and steal the **** and replace it with a similar **** that one wouldnt notice until a while later.

No, my car came from Oak Tree in San Jose. I don't know who made the swap, the original dealer, the previous owner, or Oak Tree (or a test driver?). What really annoys me is that the **** that was on the car was a Mazdaspeed3 ****, which costs almost as much as the RX-8 ****.

The original dealer didn't "insert the plugs" either (the rubber covers for the container tie-downs) and of course the used car dealer had no idea what to do with them.
