Water leaking into trunk

Hello all

I've owned my 2004 6 port Manual for nearly 2 months now, and the lovely weather here in the UK is leaking into the trunk. I've pulled out all the lining and that is drying out now.

I've tried searching for a solution, but none seem to have the same issue.

Pouring water into the small gap between the top edge of the bumper and the tail light results in water running in through the large plastic clip that appears to hold part of the bumper on (circled).

Has anyone experienced this before? Anyone know of a nice way of fixing this?

Thanks all

I've had a good search on the forum, and ruled out everything I've found.

It's not leaking through the sunroof drains, tail light gasket, boot seal or the rear window seal as suggested in other threads.

I cannot imagine how it is getting there. You are correct, that is part of holding the bumper on. I got to see mine when someone hit the car in a parking lot. Option 1 would be to pull the bumper and see if a seal is messed up, option 2 would be to get some silicon caulk and just seal up the hole from the inside. Option 2 is easier.

Thanks 04Green.

The clip itself looks like it has been removed before so it may be the result of a badly repaired rear bump.
I'll give option 2 a go on all 3 white clips and report back.

Update:

Sealed the clip, water no longer leaks in through there - good news.

Bad news... Water is leaking in through the rear window. Foam on passenger rear leather seat is wet through, so drying that out now. Going to get a quote from the dealership on a replacement seal.

Glad the seal job worked.

The rear window does not have a seal, it is glued in. I know the because my neighbor flew his RC quad copter through my rear window. An auto glass person should be able to pull it and re-seal it.

Thanks 04Green. Took the car to AutoGlass today, quoted £120 to pull the window, and an extra £800 if they break it - they couldn't guarantee they wouldn't!

I'm going to try backfilling the seal from the inside.

so the car you bought has previously been damaged in the rear either rear ended or the other owner backed into something

Good luck.

It is a pain to get the rear deck apart. When you do, you will want a small tube to squirt stuff with, or maybe figure out how to get some of the spray on sealer back there. I seem to remember that it is pretty tight.
