NC Strange Problem -- At least to me

I have had my 2006 RX-8 for about 3 years and have had very few problems (thankfully). Recently it has started behaving strangely. Based on reading other threads, it could be coil related -- I have been meaning to change the coils for awhile anyway. But hopefully yall can give me your thoughts. So, here is the deal . . .

On a couple of extra warm (72 or so) days recently and after driving a bit, so when the engine is "extra" warm, the engine will start surging and/or hesitating. It is like the throttle suddenly cuts off and the engine will drop to idle speed (when you are driving this is fairly abrupt and startling). The first time it did this, the engine cut off and I had it towed but the problem was "fixed" when the shop looked at it the next morning (everything had cooled off, etc.). Coolant is good, oil is fresh. Gauges are in the same spot as always as far as oil pressure and temp. No codes coming up.

Other perhaps related, perhaps not, issues. Clutch is stiffer than normal. Heater has stopped working. (Thermostat issue?)

Any insight appreciated.

Thanks folks.
