engine sounds like a lawn mower?

04 Mazda rx-8, 6spd, 90k miles. Engine sounds like a lawn mower and idles very strange???

Bought the car from an auction, engine sounds like only one cylinder is working, sounds horrible when you start it, like a deep lawn mower sound, the car idles really strange, Trouble starting and smokes when you start it up, when you start driving it it dies on you even im dropping the clutch in time and giving it plenty of gas, when your trying to start it sounds almost like the engine if under water when you listen to the sound coming out of the exhaust.

That is, most likely, a blown motor.
It could just be an ignition issue, but not likely by the sound of it.

That's what you get when you buy at auctions. As-is means "good luck fixing it up buddy" lol

Damn its like u copied my post! Lol I also bought one from auction this week and it's doing the exact same thing but it's automatic. Going to do the blown engine test in morning by pulling the leading spark plug and listening to engine for strange noises.
