I have a 09 rx8 r3 with bose.
I purchased the metra kit (which didnt come with the harness) so i ordered the 70 7903.....
Which i thought was all i needed...
Now that im hooking all the wires up ive noticed that the second clip that was in the back of the stock radio doesnt have anything to hook up to for the pioneer, and from what i can tell on the metra site theres no harness for it.

I am first to admit I have not mess with any radio installs since i was 16, about 9 years ago lol So im practically doing all of this from scratch with the help of some nice FAQ threads on here that has helped a ton.

Seriously thinking that 100$ spent paying someone else to do it... maybe worth it lol

 

That harness is for the aux connector that is in the center console arm rest. There is no connector for it and I just left it dangling as the pioneer has it's own aux line. You are right though, i wish the metra harness would incorporate that extra harness to connect to one of the aux lines in the pioneer harness.

haha yea i guess. Just wont be able to use the aux port in your arm rest. With your new headunit that is not a big loss whatsoever anyway.

 

I'm not entirely familiar with the series II h/u's so i'm not gonna try n' guess.

*edit* figured that out and now have no idea where to hook the Pink Speed signal wire... even called pioneer lol! they said for me to have it professionaly installed.. such great help

 

correct, just go directly from the pioneer harness to a bolt on the vehicle's body (i used the screw that is in the middle in the stereo pocket...if i remember correctly it holds a plastic frame against a piece of the chassis.

For extra insurance you can do what i did, was connect the pioneer ground to the metra ground, and run a tap off of that to the chassis, but that's not at all necessary

 

Sooooo, don't keep me in suspense, where did you connect the VSS wire?!? Lol

Does the Pioneer even have speed-dependent volume adjustment? If not, you're not going to find a wire to connect it to, and it wouldn't do anything if you did.

 

You've got it Bass-Ackwards. lol I'm not looking for the VSS wire on the Pioneer head-unit, I have that. I'm looking for where I can tap the VSS signal from the car. It has nothing to do with volume, I can turn that up and down myself.

It's for the navigation that's built into the Pioneer. It needs the VSS signal from the car. Most new navigation units will attempt to maintain your location on the map by means of "dead reckoning" in the event they lose GPS signal (tunnel, tall buildings, etc).

By using gyros/accelerometers to measure turns and stops and the vehicle's speed from the VSS, the navi can attempt to "best guess" your spot on the map even with no GPS signal until such time as it can reacquire satellite reception. That is, of course, if you connect the VSS from the head-unit to the car. lol

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. When I locate where the VSS can be tapped in Series 2 cars, I will definitely post it up because apparently no one knows. In the Series 1 it's a Green/Red wire in the main radio harness, but us S2 owners aren't so lucky. *shrugs*
