What's a good price?

How much would you say is a reasonable price to pay to have someone do a standard trunk amp installation?

I've got an MTX Thunder 250W amp 2-Ch and a Polk 10" Sub in a simple box. Pretty modest hardware so far. I'd do it myself, but honestly, I don't trust myself not to damage my interior.

Also, when consider the answer to my question, also realize I'm looking for someplace better than a Best Buy or Circuit City, where anyone with a 1 hour class can be hired to do the work w/o really knowing what the hell they're doing.

So I have the amp and sub and box. Here's what I'd be paying for:

1) Power wiring kit to get power from battery/alt to amp
2) Wiring to get feed to the sub
3) Labor/expertise for a clean installation with zero dmg to interior (scratches, gouging, dirt, etc)

So far, taken it to Tweeters. The quoted me $150 total for all 3 of the above. That seems pretty damn high to me, but maybe it's not, I don't know.

Thoughts?

Oh yeah, and what guage power cable would you recommend for a relatively low-wattage solution like mine?

Don't ever buy crap from tweeter. They try to sell you **** just because it is expensive. Their motto: expensive is good. The whole chain is based around this motto. I went in there once and asked if they sold any 5x7 components and one guy told me there is no such thing. I asked if he ever heard of focal, he went on this shpiel (sp?) saying, "would you put speakers worth X amount in a car worth Y amount?" I just left. The only thing you should ever consider doing is trying to haggle with them or price match, as I have heard it is possible in some of their stores.

I would suggest just calling up some of your local audio places, or go visit.

From: AL/GA...you pick
your probably looking at a $75 install + about $25 for an 8awg Amp kit...i'd say close to $100 when all said and done...usually custom shops don't have amp kits like you buy from 'crunch'field or any other place (Circuit City..etc..)..we always had spools of wire just because it's cheaper that way...and we'd sell it by the meter....you would need to call because all shops price differently...some according to install some are a set fee + any wiring or additional hardware...

It's funny you say that Nufan.

Tweeter has an entire section of 5x7 speakers for sale on their website...

about $100 total, huh? Strange thing was, the Tweeter guy quoted me $55 for labor, but almost $100 in parts for 2 wiring kits (Power and Signal, $39.95 ea) plus tax....making it about $150.

The place that installed my system for me basically charges parts + hourly rate for installation. Since mine was a custom setup it took longer than a non-custom one. Basically I think MOST places (that aren't chains) charge anywhere from $25-$50 per hour. For a job like you have i'm assuming a fair price would be 100 + the wire kit.

Here's a picture of my setup...

3 x 8" JL Audio
1 Kenwood Amp (Recycled from my old system... I believe its 750 or 1000 watts?)

The amp is mounted on the back of the box which can be seen from the inside of the car (through the trunk pass-through). I don't have any pics of that now .

Honestly the model i'm not sure about... i'd have to check my invoice as it was a couple months back. The price was aroud $500 installed. That included the 3 x 8's and the custom box with carpet. The amp like I said I had already.

I specifically asked about 5x7 component speakers, where the tweeters are separate and come with a crossover. Not sure if you noticed that tidbit. I know they have 5x7 coax. I wasn't planning on buying from them, just curious what they had. But, because of that idiot that tried to feed me his lies, I won't even visit anymore.
