Hey everyone,

This seems like a question that should have been answered already, but I did some extensive searching and didn't find anything conclusive. Does the dsc button on the dash partially or fully disable all assists? After pushing the button (dsc illuminated on the cluster) the car seems to slide and spin the tires freely; which leads me to believe the button fully disengages all stability systems. However, I found an inconclusive thread that implied the button doesn't fully disengage dsc/tcs, and you have to hold the button down for 7 seconds to fault the system in order to completely turn it off. This information seems contradicting; How does my rx8 "drift" so easily if the stability control systems are still partially active. I apologize if this is a repost, but as previously stated I did a fair amount of searching and didn't find a solid answer. Thanks in advance.

There's a difference between DSC and TCS. To fully disable both you have to push the button for 7 secs.

 

Alright thanks that makes sense. From what I understand the button only disables dsc, leaving tcs active. By definition traction control applies the brakes when the drive wheels exceed the speed of the non drive wheels. Which is why I was confused. I assumed I'd notice the brakes being applied when sliding my car. But hey, if brakes could over power a motor Toyota would be a lot better off right now .

 

The first step doesn't work that well, especially when tracking the car. Fully on or fully off is the best approach

 

So I gave it a try and the car is definitely much easier to control with the stability systems fully disengaged. Apparently I was fighting the brakes more than I thought. I assume disabling the systems in that manner stores a code; but who cares. Thanks for all your help.
