TX Weird airconditioning & Hot/Warm problem

i have a 2007 rx8 with 119,900 miles on it. I live in Texas, it's been about 103+ average temperature the last few weeks
My airconditioning started acting up. It would not get cold then it would get cold, and my Hot/Cool needle would go up and down sporadically.

any suggestions

I have the same problem.. once in awhile.

When AC is on all of sudden warm air would come out, so I turn the temperature dial to hot and back to cold and cold air starts to come out again.

Vice versa during winter time.

"my Hot/Cool needle would go up and down sporadically" What ???????

You mean your engine temperature gauge? If so..............that's not good. Have you carefully checked you coolant level?

My '07 does the exact same thing. The a/c heat dial turning did do the trick, albeit temporarily. Mine is worse on 90+ days. It helps to put a window blocker over your dash when you leave it parked. It cools down much faster. I think we both need a new A/C amplifier. I just replaced my radiator and installed a new Re-medy water pump. I think the increased air through the Mishi radiator improved my cooling a bit. That means more is going through the condensor also.

I think we have multiple problems here. Not everybodies is the same. More details are needed.

Yours however, sound like the problem I had with heat. Many people have had problems with the control for the heat/cool funtion. My self included. The circuit board this connects to has a cold solder connection. The pins of the control are no longer making contact with the circuit board. It either has to be repaired or replaced. And, repairing it your self is a lot cheaper than replacing it, depending on your soldering skills.
There is a DIY write up on how to take it out.

Sounds like its time to re-solder your control unit. Once out the process is EASY with a proper iron.

Mine went out at about 60k

So would this affect the engine temp going up sporadically?

Depends. What is this "Hot/Cool needle" you are talking about?

If it is the stock one then you could have a Major problem and you should be keeping a Very close eye on it.

The stock "Hot/Cool needle" is not proper and wont move for a great range of temps. If it is showing hot then your car is over heating. The RX-8's wont last long if it is overheated a few times.

Thank you, I'll look into it. It used to be like that all the time, but recently it's been doing it once in awhile.
