On the horizon: Peripheral Renesis results

We are testing a Peripheral Exhaust Renesis from Brian Cain at BDC Motorsports in the next month or so. I'll keep everyone posted. Brian and I thought it might be interesting to introduce this subject so people could start thinking about this and ask productive questions.

If you want to argue that this doesn't work or is stupid---stay off this thread. One of you is probably going to debate about this and just to let you know I am not going to be kind because I'm sick and tired of you putting me in a position of defending that which I've found to be true. You know who your are. Others know who your are. Stay off this and other threads I start please.

Are you retaining the side exhaust ports too?

I for one get excited when Eric makes a new thread because it always starts off with "we are testing" "we tested" "we made" "we are making" ....

those four starting phrases make me excited and anxious of whats to come

Well he said PP Renesis, so I would assume that means both?
Eric , just to let you know, the forum has the ability to block choice people from posting.

This is going to be very interesting, and I love to see what kind of header design Eric comes up with.

Does this mean a normal looking rotary engine header will be used? YEESSSS!

Explaining to people why there are 3 pipes instead of 2 can get pretty funny.

It would also be nice to have a physical way to "peer" into the engine, and visually inspect the apex seals and carbonated surfaces. It would be an easy way to judge if your engine needs a steam clean/seafoom/ZOOM ZOOM cleaner.

Buy an optic fibre probe.

Easy. Get a borescope and look into the intake or exhaust ports with the LIM or exhaust manifold off the car. I would go the exhaust manifold off the car as you'll need not remove the engine.

You might (not sure) get to peak through the spark plug openings. Not sure they make a scope that can fit through the plug openings.

Sleep---why don't you give this explanation a shot? I have faith you will do a superior job.

FYI we will be using the original 3 exhaust and then adding the 2 for a total of 5. The header will be crazy to make and is the primary reason this project will take a bit before we fire the motor.

There is one person I know of that is using the 5 exhaust runner/PPort Renesis. He is very well known. He has hours and hours on his engine. It may be turbocharged and he may own a company in Southern California and sells lots of rotary parts and services.

I've got some questions:
How many degrees of overlap does this create?

Are you hoping this will alleviate exhaust heat and pressure on the side seal issues, or looking for something more than that?

Are you switching to RX-7 apex seals/corner seals to accomodate the peripheral port?

I've always wondered if such a configuration NA will lead to more reversion because there simply won't be enough exhaust gas for the port area available...then again, perhaps with the introduction of overlap scavenging will alleviate that...

How about I argue that this has already been tried by someone who has a lot of racing experience, chooses not to post up much on this forum, and has decided to eschew the idea based on their internal data-gathering? Is that acceptable?

Welcome to the RX8Club, Eric. We at BHR have been through (since 2003) all that which seems to irritate you and we can empathize with your current frustration.

Wow. That header is going to be nuts, can't wait to see how it turns out.

Eric, I know Brian has been working on a partial bridgeport renesis. Seems he has been busy!

How long are you going to make the runners on the exhaust header before the collector? This is an important aspect when looking for more power in the PP exhaust motors.

I agree. To do this correctly is to have the Phd. folks do serious analysis. It is doable. Dr. Gas (google) does this for megabucks. He can optimize this jazz. Too expensive for what we are doing---which is fishing for what this jazz looks like. No optimization, just a fishing expedition. Fish first. Look at data. Talk to several smart guys to kick it around and think about what we might try next.

Packaging (the space in and around the exhaust area for those who are new to this term) will dictate how much exhaust we can cram into that space. Probably need to make a tricky right side motor mount.
