Hi guys,

I've been noticing that when I'm maintaining 70+ MPH on a highway I get the red coolant light on my dash. Most times I slip over to the slow lane and it goes away rather quickly but I'm not sure if it's a bigger issue than I think. I've checked the coolant (not that I know what I'm looking for in there) but the level looks good.

Oh and my car is black and I thought maybe it's just because its really hot and my car is black? Could that be it?

I NEED HELP!!!

 

The coolant sensor is a known issue with the rx8.
What year is your car?

Could also be a failing water pump.

What does the coolant temp gauge indicate? If it shows an OK temp range then its just the coolant surge tank level and/or level indicator as stated above.

 

Level sensor goes bad.

You can fix (replace whole bottle $200+)
You can ignore,
or disconnect sensor, to disable.

 

2008 Grand Touring. Oil Temp is fine and my water temp sit just about 200 on a hot day and around 180 on a normal day.

 

It happened to mine once i drive past 60 mph or so at the freeway. It goes away when i slow down below 60 mph...i guess it's normal to an rx8.
