Warranty help
Of the local group who has used Milam Mazda? I'm taking my 8 in there tomorrow night as it is starting to feel tired. I had a compression test two years ago and it was borderline then I think. Any tips for talking to the service guys. Not much time left on my warranty as it was built in 03.
Also think they will give me trouble over my BHR coils? My car is an 04 with 76,000 on it.

They should not give you issues over the coils. If they do then engage BHR because they have dealt with dealerships that said their coils were an issue.
If the compression is still borderline then they will mostly likely pass the car. They may want to swap in new plugs and do a decarb to see if it helps. Also if your starter is old they will say you need to swap it.

The dealer called and said there are indications of internal engine damage but they are required by Mazda to run certain tests. Cost is $300-$350 if it does not need a new engine.
He said it is an engine balance test, some toad test, and something called a baro test. He wasn't sure how the baro test was spelled.
This sound about the norm?

I was under the impression that the only test they perform is a compression check. And how exactly do you perform an engine balance test? Or a baro test. And I'm guessing you meant load test? I'll let others chime in here, but that doesn't sound right.
The baro test, or barometric test, is a replacement for the compression test because Mazda discontinued the electronic compression tester required for rotaries. It's essentially a vacuum test.
When they do the baro test, insist they do it with the cat disconnected. When I had Ruby in for what I had already determined was a bad cat, the dealer went down the new engine route until they pulled the cat and tested again. Strange thing about air pumps, you can pull more air in if you can't expell what's already there.
Yes, a new engine would probably be nice, but there are lots of opportunities for things to go wrong with a swap, even under warranty, so if your engine is actually good, and it's just a failing cat that is causing loss of power, that's the route you want to go down.

They did a compression test and it failed. They did it for me a few years ago so I knew they at least used to have to tools. And the "road test" after poking he said " we have to drive it then we do a cleaning process then drive it again" to which I said " oh you mean the decarb cleaning". He then just agreed to do the compression test and hung up.
He then didnt call me back today so I called there and he told me it failed, they did the decarb after Mazda requested it so on their dime to start with and after the decarb they decided to order me an engine. I will take it back in a month or too to have the car checked also since I am near the 80k limit.
While they do the motor I'm going to get the new starter, some new plugs and BHR is going
To update some stuff on my coil kit! Should be running smooth soon. I hope.

Good deal! When I had my motor swapped I ordered the BHR ignition kit. They sent me the plugs ASAP so the dealership could use them to swap in. Ask your dealership about swapping the fuel line as well.
I asked about a fuel line and the service writer wasn't sure what I was talking about. What fuel line is it exactly and why is it good to replace?
They showed me the compression results and they were 5.9,6.3, 6.2. Minimum should have been 6.9.
