Odd brake wear
I just got all my brake pads replaced and I noticed that the rears had greater wear than the fronts.
The front rotors are slotted project mu and rear was factory. The pads where project mu HC+.
Normally, the front brakes do most of the work so you would expect more front pad wear. You would also expect more wear on the front due to the slotted rotors. I have just replaced my rear factory discs to slotted as well and now I am worried that the rear wear will accelerate.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this puzzle.
I track my car around 6 times a year and use the car on the street approximately once a week. I also run tein monoflex coil over suspension.

When you use your brakes with the traction control & edc programs completely off, do you find the car a bit tail happy?

The question is are the Project Mu pads same compound front and rear....or are the rears potentially a different slightly softer compound??
I find on track that the fronts wear faster than the rears in about a 2-1 ratio with the same compound front and rear

He's told us that his fronts are project mu and rears are stock ...
However, I think by leaving it on I think it causes the brakes to activate and it could be the cause of the extra wear in the rear. I can feel it coming on on the undulating back straight.
I may have to lessen the damping force at the rear suspension even more to allow better traction.

Just double check that they're the same compound front and rear.
We've found that the alternate project mu pad wears a LOT more than the harder compound.
Having said that,as the RX8 is 50-50 weight distribution,the rears do more work than on most cars,but not enough to show the sort of wear that you're encountering.
Be interested to see the difference in wear with a change of disc.
Some aftermarket pads exhibit rapid wear on some sorts of discs for no apparent reason.
And yes,soften the rear suspesion a tad to improve traction-you may need this soon......

The front spring are 10kg which means less dive. This may mean the rear brakes will have to work a bit more than usual. By the way, excessive wear was not that pronounced between front and rear. The differance was that the rear was metal to metal and the front had about 2mm left on the pads.
So, you could say they nearly wore out evenly. However, you would normally expect more wear to the front due to weight transfer and the slotted rotors.

Sounds fairly normal. You may find that as the rears are a fair bit smaller, there is a bit more heat there seeing you are running aftermarket suspension and more importantly, R-spec tyres. Your suspension will probably give the car a bit less dive (as you suggested) and so you can get more braking effort in before one end locks up, or even under ABS.
