New RX 8 User in need of guidence
Hey guys i recently bought a 2005 Mazda Rx 8 6 speed stick shift and i was just wondering if you have any maintenance tips or any shifting or driving tips i am also new to the whole rotary engine

As RX8Soldier said, read some of the stickies in the major areas and they will cover anything you will really need to know about the car and how to maintain it/love it.
In terms of shifting...Don't grind the gears? There's really no Wax On/Wax Off to shifting an RX8, it's just like any other car in that respect. And driving it, if you live in a sunnier climate, then just have fun in it, take corners with some ***** and remember, having an RX8 is like having a child, you have to love it like it's special. This ain't no V-Cack **** that your nerdy 15 year old neighbor jizzles over in his spare time, its a different world, treat it like you love it :-)

Textbook tips:
Check oil level every other fill up.
Try not to shut it off cold too often.
Short distance driving is not so good.

There are 3 common myths, out there, about the rotary engine that you may hear.
1: They burn oil. This is true. And they have since the mid to late 70's. They are designed to. Oil is added to lubricate the engine seals as they rotate. First "Oil Metering Rods" were used to inject the oil. Later, an OMP was used for reliability and to better regulate the flow of the oil to be injected. The real oil burners were the early rotaries. The seals weren't as good as they are today and you would have a cloud of smoke trailing you down the road due to seal failure.
2: The engines flood. Some do. Some don't. I've never had a problem with flooding in my RX8 and I don't take any special precautions when shutting down. Others do. A weak ignition system may have something to do with it. Mazda changed the settings in the ECU about 3 yrs ago partly in an attempt to remedy that problem.
3: The engines don't last. Again, Some do. Some don't. We had someone that just turned over 200K miles on his original engine. Others, like me, are on their 4th engine in less than 100K miles. Mazda extended the engine warranty on the early models, because they recognized there was a problem. Again, changes were made to the ECU programming to make the engine last longer for people like me. One of my engines, #3, probably went bad due to a shoddy job performed by an engine rebuilder. This rebuilder isn't being used by Mazda anymore. They have their own facility in Virginia that performs the work. I have one of these engines now and it is working great.
