Vented Hoods???

I know there has been a few threads out there, I know the stock hood is very light, I know how ugly black carbon fiber looks on other color cars. THAT SAID:

Are there any vented aftermarket hoods on the market yet for the RX8??? Can anyone provide me info, etc.?

Please, let's just dedicate this thread to ACTUAL products, versus discussing pros, cons, photoshop chops, etc.

Are there any available yet?

I really would like to get one installed by March.

Thanks in advance everyone!!

Mint Blue

Mint Blue makes a vented carbon hood. Its not an extreme vent, but there is one. I wonder if anyone would want to go in on a group buy for it. They also have the same hood in fiberglass.

Is that even a vent? It looks kinda off-center....Possibly functional with the intake?

R-Magic?

Can't really tell, but it looks like this Veilside hood could be vented, but the angle is too small to see for sure.

hideous, stupid, and pointless on both counts. why the hell hasn't someone copied the nicely louvered hood from the '01 RX-8 Concept???

I like the veilside hood....don't really see how it could possibly be functional, but it looks cool. :D

I've seen hoods on the RX-7s with the opening in the front & with the side vents, wondering if anyone plans on copying this type.....

I've never seen it, but is this what we are talking about with this question?

I can't argue the aesthetic commentary, but re: functionality, maybe this can help (Taken from an EvoVIII press release):

"The hot air extraction vents in the engine hood... Extraction efficiency has also been improved... by adding a kickup to the leading edge to generate more negative pressure. As well as reducing drag and front lift, these detail improvements also boost radiator cooling performance. "

Well, in that case, there's definitely a kickup on the veilside hood to create negative pressure at the vents, and the vents probably line up about a foot or two behind the radiator (but significantly in front of the engine), so maybe there would be some functional value to them in improved heat dispersion.

And I do think they look cool :D

Any info on material or weight?

Personally I prefer function over style, though It's always nice when the to are integrated. That being said, I like the R Majic hood. I live in the Phoenix desert and it gets REALLY hot here so its a must. I'd like to see someone produce a vented hood similar to the NSX hoods I've seen with deep vents.

I dig this style. Look how deep the vents are in the second pic from the under side.

TOTALLY. It would seem that the deeper the better. I'm only talking from a style, perspective, too. I really don't know much about the function, other than rotaries run hot so holes in the hood would be good. Heh heh.

I completely agree, though, Vivid Racing should produce one of these deeply vented hoods. I'll write my check right now. Who do I make it out to??? :D
