issues with temperature ****

i'm having issues with my temperature control ****, i'm not getting heat when i turn the temp **** to the right. but if i put pressure down on the **** (even the slightest pressure like tapeing a quarter on the ****) heat comes out. so i basically have to push down on the **** while i drive in order to get heat. the AC works fine, it's just when i switch it over to heat nothing comes out. i brought it in to get it checked and the guy quoted me 492$ for the whole circuit board. he said the this is one unit (fan speed, mode options, and temperature setting) and it'll have to get replaced.

i'm not really willing to throw up 500$ to get this fixed, i honestly dont mind holding the heat **** down while driving if it'll save me 500$, but should i get another estimate somewhere else? i thought it'd be a easier/cheaper fix!
