How's going everyone? I'm new here. Just moved from Honda to this whole new Rotary world. Got my 8 last week. Pretty amazed by the feel of the 8.

However, I got a question. My 8 built in 2005 but I'm not sure whether it is a MY06 or just a MY05. I'm a little bit comfused by the birth date of my 8. There are two plate under the hood. The one on the left seems from the factory. It says the built date is SEP 2005. But the other plate, which I think is the Australia compliance plate. It says the compliance date is 10/05.

So is my 8 a MY06 or a MY05? Can you guys tell from the date? Or you really need the VIN to know? Or you guys know other things that can tell whether it is a MY06 or MY05.

congratulations on your rx8! I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I think it would be classed as an 05. my dealer made a big deal about me getting an 04 build and not a 03 when I purchased in early 04.

Why does it matter?

Your Build Date of Sep 2005, is the DATE it was made in Japan, the 10/05 (October) Date is the date it arrived in Australia and the Month the ADR Compliance Plate was installed here in Australia while in Bond Store...

Australia really does not use a MY, which is usually a year older than production year like the US does, a local Mazda Dealer calls yours a 2005 model.

When evaluating your car a used and new dealer here will also call your car a 2005, so it is 5 years old.
