Lately i have been smelling a burning smell , so i decided to look under the car and noticed the cat was glowing red around the o2 sensor , is this normal.
My car currently has 108k km and if the cat was bad would i not get a cel . I have searched a few threads but get mixed anwsers . Thanks in advance everyone.

About 2 months after a bought my car used, i was getting a simliar smell, and then my check engine light went off.

I had bought the extended warrenty on my car, and when i took it in, they said they had to replace the CAT, it was a fairly expensive job, if not for warrenty, I would have been out 2K, i'm sure you can get it done cheaper, but this was at the dealership.

See if you can find someone selling their CAT, i know a lot of the guys who race the car, end up removing or replacing the CAT and will sell the stock ones.

 

mazda replace mine for free, still under warrenty. 8 yrs. I didnt have the burning or smellthing, but the engine light would always come on. I would clear it, and a week later it would come on. So i would get it checked out at mazda and see if they will replace it for free. Hope this info helps.
