HELP! 83,000 mls catalytic converter going out
My 2004 Mazda RX 8 currently has 83,000 miles. It appears as though the under the Federal Emission Control Warranty it's only good for 80,000 miles. Convenient for Mazda
One Mazda shop wants to charge $1,600 just for catalytic converter not including labor and other emissions issues. Going to see if a friend of a friend from different Mazda dealership have other options. Any one out there know what I can do. Help!
Need to pass emissions, have 30 days to repair system diagnosis P0442, P0456, and P0420 with little cash flow.
Thank you,
Tish

You can PM this guy and see if he is still selling it:

Or keep an eye on the Buy/Sell threads and wait for another to pop up.
If you know any locals, ask to borrow their cat so you can get e-checked.
Then worry about buying a cat/mid-pipe.

You can buy an aftermarket hi flow cat from a forum vendor then sweet talk a local forum member for a lil' help n' kick down a total of a little over 1/4 of the cost for everything + learn something new, make a new friend and possibly add a lil' more flow to the car...
win - win - win??
