so im making this thread because i want to change my oil at home but i do not know where to begin.

what kind of oil is recommended for my 8?
what kind of filter is recommended?
where is the filter located?
how much oil should i put?

David, I appreciate your enthusiasm in changing your own oil, it's a good thing to do to save some cash.

However, the topic of oil has been debated since 2003. What I can recommend is go ahead and spend some time searching threads on the forum, and seeing what other owners had to say first, then form your own opinion about it. Not much need for another oil thread after the many we already have.

Only use 5W-20 and Mazda oil Filters k oh and keep all your oil receipts.

FWIW dont take only one person's advice... thats not smart, not saying he is wrong but in general, seek advice from several people and go from there...

Do the "Raise driver side, passenger side, driver side again" to get more "old" oil out of the car and only refill the amount you got out.

The manual will recommend oil type. that will be a good start.
