alternator belt
anyone can help me out here ...i was planning to replace my rx8 2004 model alternator belt. i found out the belt also connected in main pulley of the engine.
how im going to take take this off. i just being careful i have no idea what's the right timing for the main pulley? i dont want my engine blew off.
or there's no any connection in timing ???

Just screw in the Alternator tensioning screw to release the belt's tension and it should slip off relatively easily. Then when you've replaced it with a new belt screw out the tensioner so there's about 1/2" of belt deflection under strong thumb pressure.
edit: "adjusting bolt C" in Jon's instructions below is the 'tensioner' to which I was referring.
Ol' days there was no tensioner, just a nut and you had to [very carefully] pry on the white metal body of the alternator while tightening the nut, so things have gotten much easier in this regard.
