The heated mirrors were only an option for the GT package with heated seats. Getting heated mirrors, or swapping for them shouldn't be too hard.

wasn't still an option even if you have heated seats or do they just not indicate heated mirrors like most cars do?

The '05s GT package listed "Heated seats, Heated Mirrors". I have never seen them outside of the GT package, always combined with heated seats. They work off of the rear defroster button though, so completely independent installation is possible. Most used-car advertisements don't list them at all, even if they get the heated seats part right, because it is rare that someone selling an 8 would be in a situation where they would notice.

I have the base base model 04 so guess no heated mirrors and the rear defroster worked great on the rear window but not on the mirrors =[

The heated mirrors work off the windshield defrost button not the rear defroster button.

Not mine

Ice covered mirrors stay ice covered for me until I tap the rear defrost button. Warming up the car with just the windshield vent button doesn't. Unless I am sadly sadly misguided? Give me another few weeks up here and I will be able to test it. Frost on the windshield every morning now, but not mirrors. It will be there soon.

hmm. I've noticed new cars have a symbol now on the mirror to show that it is a heated mirror but ours don't have that. I guess I'll get to figure this out sometime but my car is always garaged. Maybe I'll just turn the defroster on and then touch the mirror and see if it gets hot.

According to my "Owner's Manual" (Page 3-30):

Mirror defroster*

If your vehicle has mirror defrosters, turn them on by turning the ignition switch to
the ON position and pushing the rear window defroster switch (page 5-54).

True... they work off the rear defroster and are pretty potent heaters also. Under the right conditions, they'll steam.
