Next Generation Corvette C7 to Arrive in 2012

GM has announced that C7 Corvette production will begin in April 2012, for the 2013 model year.

While details are limited, the company stated that the C7 would retain a front-engine layout. This contradicts earlier rumors that suggested the next generation Corvette could adopt a mid-engine setup.

Styling could be influenced by the Stingray Concept that was introduced at the Chicago Auto Show and featured in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Regardless of what it looks like, the new Corvette is expected to be smaller, more lightweight, and more advanced than the car it replaces.

With the arrival of the $30,245 426 hp Camaro SS, the $48,565 430 hp base Corvette started to look obsolete. This will likely be rectified when the C7 begins production, as the base engine should produce at least 450 hp to help justify its premium status.

Since the C7 will be launched in a few years, look for prototypes to start appearing in the coming months.

Same, love the vette from the movie. That thing is in a league of its own, bad-***.

Good find Alfy, I don't know if i like the term smaller. The C6 is smaller from the C5 as it is slightly narrow and slightly taller. I hope GM goes back to making the Vette smaller length wise and make it wide or wider than the C5 Vette. Other wise the Stingray concept isn't too bad.

I just hope they don't go skinnier and tall like they did with the volt concept. I don't really like the stingray concept, but it could grow on me i guess.

If I provide proof I've been paying taxes all these years, will they give me a discount?

Would be nice if they made it look more exotic; it may help their sales. I wonder what they are going to do as far as power...I mean, how much is too much for a relatively affordable car meant for the street? At some point, that 500hp becomes useless on the street....

can't wait to see what this thing is going to look like.
Hopefully the 'bean counters' dont' mess it up and the car is more technologically advanced and worth of the name it bares

C1 1953–1962
C2 1963–1967
C3 1968–1982
C4 1984–1996
C5 1997–2004
C6 2005–2012
C7 2013-

Pretty consistent... C5 lasted eight years and so will the C6

Why is that bad?

It's not like it's a civic or an integra, it's a proper high performance sports car.

Not their fault that people are buying the vettes, and not buying the "not so common sports car" like the rx-8.

Hehe, you would say the same thing if those Vettes that you see everyday where Lambos or Ferraris. The only reason why we break our neck to look at those cars driving by because there not everywhere. If they were common and the Vette was the rare vehicle , you would break your neck to stop and stare as it drove by.

In European and middle eastern countries the Corvette is deemed as a exotic car. When my buddy was stationed in Germany with his C6 Corvette, he told me when he drove through small towns ,cities ,etc people would point , stop and stare and gasp in amazement like he was driving a 200+k exotic car.
