Paint Chipping Covered under Warranty?

Hey all,

I have an 04 LY and my paint is chipping around the wheel wells, the metal underneath is still fine but it just seems the paint didn't adhere properly to the metal. There are no signs of rust and I understand the warranty covers perforation, but was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and if they had it covered under warranty.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I haven't heard about covering paint chips. Did you check www.finishlineperformance.com and see if the TSBs listed for the RX8 mention chipped paint?

As you said, there is no written warranty for this....

However, take it to your dealer and ask them to investigate why the paint is failing.

If the paint is chipping due to debris impact (rocks, sand, etc.), then you're probably S.O.L. On the other hand, if the paint is not sticking to the primer, or the metal, there could be some hope for you.

I am aware of a situation (not with an RX-8) where Mazda has looked at a paint adhesion failure, and has invoked 'goodwill'; ie. assisted to a point with paint repairs.

Usually, 'goodwill' requires participation from Mazda Canada; the car Owner; and the Dealer.

A good relationship with your dealer will go a long way to resolve this.

Fat chance you will get the dealer to fix the paint on a 5 year old car.
