Hmm...

rotary engine = compact & lightweight but low torque, low gas mileage.

electric motor = high torque, doesnt use gas but limited mileage

how 'bout a rotary hybrid?

Ditch the seats at the back of the 8 to make room for those lithium batteries

sounds like a feasible project hehe

I would love to do an electric conversion to my 8 just so I could pull up next to the 600hp Honda kids in town and just destroy them every time... They wouldn't realize there's no sound because their fart cans usually drown out everything else anyways...

-Way better gas milage
-Torque on the fly
-Quiet(I can actually hear my music and not the strain of the engine)
= I want it!

Oh and pollution, -compared to gas/oil emissions, carcinogeons etc.?
Yeah bring on the electric motor

My understanding is that Mazda's experimental Gasoline/Hydrogen 5 uses a hybrid internal combustion (IC)/electric powertrain with the current renesis engine as the IC component. When I first heard of the prototype's debut in Japan some years back, I told my Mazda dealer that if Mazda brought that vehicle to market without the hydrogen fuel features, I'd be seriously interested.

I also recall seeing a 13B that Mazda had set up for hydrogen before the renesis came out, that was fitted with a ring motor that acted as a generator/motor, so I think there's at least some thought about a hybrid rotary/electric arrangement. I don't know if the issues are cost, technical, or even marketing; but there is evidence to support the contention that people at Mazda are thinking about something along those lines.

Well that's nice that electric technology is coming along but until it actually beats out gasoline engines, I'm not interested. And if a high 11 second car is "unbeatable" at his drag strip, he needs to stop racing in someone's back yard. Because that's just a joke.

I don't know. It seems to me that a high 11 second car that is streetable is worth something, especially if it was done affordably (I regard the Tesla as something of a joke because if I really was in the market for a 6-figure automobile, there are a number that I find far more appealing).
