Great find and a great read. Driving any car around the ring at speed is one thing but it would definitely take some serious ***** to drive the GT2 around a wet ring. I can't imagine how hairy the less civilized 996 GT2 was.

Wait a second. I thought the GT-R's target car was the Porsche 911 Turbo? It was the GT2 all along? Still a cool read. Thanks for sharing.

Sweet article. I love the GT2.

That's a great site too, I love the layout. Thats how magazines should be adapting.

I was thinking that same thing. I think it was originally targeted at the 911 turbo, but Porsche threw a hissy fit because the numbers Nissan threw out beat their GT2. So I think thats when the comparison changed. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

I bet Porsche is laughing now since their transmission can actually do the numbers they claim without blowing up and voiding the warranty.

I still don't think Porsche was every really worried about the whole thing. They pretty much pioneered the technological AWD super car with the 959 back in the mid 80's which debuted technology that for the most part is still just now common to street cars. Nissan GT-R is still remarkable and has probably raised the bar a little bit especially in the value department.

except that the GT-R is selling for 100k, for 100k you can get a zr-1 that beat it in every category or a new Dodge Viper SRT-10 not to mention you cannot get the numbers that they pulled on the GT-R without voiding the warranty. They are also thinking of removing the option all together instead of building a stronger 20k transmission that can handle the load. The GT-R was a failure in this aspect as it cannot do what it was advertised to do for the average owner.

except you are stating false numbers, the GT-R is 70k, cheaper than the Z06. not 100k like the ZR-1. the GT-R was marked up when it first came out, but its easy to get it at msrp now especially in this economy.

go look it up with dealer markup they are going for no less than 100k, the ZR-1 with the way GM is right now is selling for sticker of 100k which is what it is supposed to be.

also the ZR-1 dominates it especially since you cant launch the GT-R without the big possibility of your transmission going boom which the dealership wont cover

Just because one guy fucked his car up, crying on the internet that he is a dumbass, and you believe that all GT-R transmission has blown up ?

good job man. keep up the good work.

Stop being a cynic. You need to answer to people and not expect people to answer to you while you sit in your dorm room chair as king of your dorm room looking down from above in a dream while sleeping in your dorm room.

And actually work out in the gym before posting a pic like that, pee wee herman.

You and kersh should be best pencil neck friends who try to outcompete each other constantly while pretending to be friends without enmity. There are geniuses out there doing things, meeting people, going places not in a dream and absolutely without having to be sardonic.

Oh, I apologize in advance but you and greg set me off. When you read this, try to laugh a little, at least at yourself, brad pitt.
Owning an 8 or not changes nothing. I personally dont know the numbers, but obviously one of them has the right prices. Your dorm room rant is a bit of a jumble. In fact, I dont see what the issue is with the dorm room or why that's relevant at all. Are you sitting in a chair of higher status that makes you any better than him? Physical appearance is just reaching... it has nothing to do with anything. If anything, you're just reaching for an insult and it falls extremely short of being mature. And unless you know this person, you probably know nothing of their personal life and therefore are making assumptions you probably shouldn't.

Now onto a more reasonable argument. The difference between $70k and $100k is quite a bit. My dad is looking at getting a $70k car. He couldnt swing a $100k car. You dont need to be a multi-millionaire to afford those cars. Well off, yes. And as surprising as it might be, the economy does affect those people as well.

Come back once you've made an actual argument. It's real easy to bullshit a bunch of personal attacks based off things you saw on the internet... but it actually takes a bit more effort to make a real argument on topic.

lol go look at the numbers for people who have blown their transmission trying to use the launch control. If it was not a problem then why did the owners have to sign a piece of paper stating that if they used launch control and blew their tranny that it would not be covered under warranty? they knew exactly what they were doing and did it anyway.

there are plenty of dealerships locally in the DC area that has it for MSRP. If you are trying to buy a GT-R at 100k youre probably an idiot.
The Zr-1 is a all around better performer, no one here argued against that. and you are just pulling things out of your **** with the big possibility of the transmission going boom comment.

Where is your so called proof?

I'm not saying you don't have it but show it. Show the owners who got the car at MSRP. Expound on the transmission issue or nonissue by citing information from owners, literature, etc. Note that I haven't required you to cite the original sources but rather have asked you to talk and expound intelligently. Anyone can make 5 second sound bites that require very little energy for the purpose of ego reaction with vested interest rather than dispassionate intellectual substance. Learn to think, kid.

ok, sure i have a personal friend who got one at msrp. I will provide the link to the dealership's site and their phone number to you after I talk to him.

however he said "big possibility of the transmission going boom" you left out the "big." on purpose trying to twist the argument.
I will show proof that majority of the GT-R transmission has not gone boom.

now its time you back up your cliams in the other thread after I back up mine. please stand by while I gather the information

Launch control is not even an "advertised" feature.

They know about it, They still did it. IS that nissan's fault? nope.

Thats pretty much like if we keep pushing our car on a track, eventually the car overheated and engine blows up. Can we blame Mazda for it ?

and you said a lot of tranny blew, I wanna ask you where u get those info from ?

A lot of ppl said Rotary engine blows up every 60 K . is that true ? and civic guys are saying our cars are slow when their car cant even make more than 110 hp. so ?

the so called "godly" numbers that they put out were using launch control a feature that is on the vehicle that they used to try and beat the competition. It also states that it should not be used for launching the car so their advertised numbers are false. People that have used launch control have lost their transmissions and no the company will not warranty it.

as for them "knowing about it and still doing it"

I was driving my gtr two weeks ago and I heard a loud noise coming from the rear. I turned immediately had my gtr towed to crown nissan st. petersburg fl. They didn't touch my car only called some techs from tennessee to look at the car and record the noise, 4 days later two guys from japan to download some info from the car then left. Then I get a call from the dealer to tell me the news, and they told me that the car was driven without vdc too much and nissan will not warranty the transmission which they said was destroyed, I asked them how much to fix it they told me 20k, no freaking way I will pay 20k on top of what i just paid for the car. I called the gtr number and also talked to nissan consumer affairs got nowhere, now the car is sitting at the dealer. I know we shouldn't launch the car but why own it if you cant use this function, don't sell a car that goes 0-60 in 3.4 sec if the only way you can achieve this speed is to void the warranty , false advertising. Here is the bad news people were fearing it has happened to me and Nissan has told me there are already three people in my shoes, if you are one of these people email me, we have got to get together on this. Just think if any of you guys have taken the vdc off just a few times you have already voided your warranty, good luck what a joke nissan.
all i was told to do was read over the owners manual, and when i asked them about launch control they told me do it as much as you want.
http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=25361

http://www.nissanusa.com/pdf/techpub...09_GTR_WIB.pdf

Nissan will not cover damage due to misuse of:
Operating the vehicle with VDC off, except when rocking vehicle when stuck in mud or snow.

with the limited production of this vehicle only a few people having transmissions going and not being covered by the warranty there is going to be a problem. you would think they would want to take care of their "supercar" buyers no matter what.

For your RX-8 engine problem comment, mazda recognized there was a problem and had a recall. that does not mean everyone is going to have the problem but some are and they wanted to take care of you in case it did.
