Check Engine light ON!!!

Hi Fellow RX8 Club member,
I need you guys help me again, my 8 recently just got over 80,000k miles and jsut tonight around 9pm when I was about entering a freeway I gas it and after i got on the freeway for a little bit my engine light went on, what sup with that?
The engine before have hard time to start, it takes a few crank before it start, its like not even want to start.
I change the the spark plug about 5000-6000 miles ago, and recently had an oil change. do you think maybe the ignition wire or ignition coil needs to be change? or my cat-converter is mess up, who knows. By the way, i am currently still using the nology ignition wire 50,000 mile on it, haven't put on my auto exe yet.
Thanks again

You need to get a scanner and have the engine codes read. You haven't given us enough information yet.

CEL could mean a loose gap cap or that you have a major issue. That's why the poster above asked for the code. You can go to any Autozone if you have one in your town. They will plug in for free. From there they will give you a code and a list of possible suspects. Post then code back here and we can probably narrow it down if not nail it for you.

Take care,

Brian

Follow what BBQDude said, get it read free at autozone and search for the code they give you on this site and you will find your answer.

Try an auto parts store. I know Auto Zone will provide free scans. Post the code and we will work from there.

I have extended warranty and went to a mazda dealer ship, anyway they said they have to charge me for $150 just to scan it, I told that person he must be on crack or dreaming. I went to my neighbor shop and ask them to check the code, since i always get oil change and some other stuff there they charge for free. So he scan it and told me that I must floor it pretty hard and cause that, he just need to clear the code and it will be fine, just a one time thing.
The code is "P0661"
after he clear the code my car is fine of course. Plus, this is interesting the shift are a lot smoother and faster, rpm go up faster and shift at about 6000 RPM.
I should ask him maybe he can change the rev up to 8500rpm, you think the device can do that?

A P0610 is a PCM vehicle options error.

Possible Cause:
Configulation procedure has not been completed
PCM malfunction

The troubleshooting procedure seem that they want the PCM to be reprogrammed. If that doesn't solve the problem, then the PCM is bad.

a device that i know can do that is a reflash device either from Racingbeat or Mazdamaniac. the thing from Mazdamaniac is called Cobb Accessport, like the one i have rite now. MM can provide you with tons and tons of calibrations that match the mods to your car. you can even ask him to give you a custom calibration that allows the car to rev up to 8500 RPM. from what i learned, you might need a better ATF fluid plus and Automatic transmission cooler. I think you should get the AP from Mazdamaniac. I am experiencing a good stuff with AP rite now. there so much good things to say about AP. one is that AP can read and clear your CELs, measuring ur 0-60 times, and etc.

So my light went on again....sign, apparently i need to change that solenoid or something. I wonder how much it cost and again what does SSV valve do?
What cause the damage and does this happen often I don't want to change every once a while.

Clearing a code with an OBD-II reader will not cause any change in performance in your car. Therefore it must be your mind playing games on you if you think your car is running smoother.

Didn't you say you have an extended warranty? Just go get it fixed...
