Need to remove spray tint from body panels :(
Need to remove spray tint from body panels :(
So today, I decided to get rid of my blacked out taillights. I used standard spray tint for RC cars to coat them. I sprayed some paint remover on them, and it came off pretty easily, but it dripped down all over my bumper, a bit of the side panels, and the trunk lid. I figured it would come off easily, so I didn't think much of it. Now, everything is stained pretty badly. I tried using the same paint remover stuff I initially used, lacquer thinner, Goo Gone, waxing it, and gasoline. Essentially, the only thing I haven't tried is clay barring it, but I have a feeling that won't do much at this point.
Has anyone had a similar experience and have an idea of how to get it off? My poor whitewater pearl look pretty bad now

sounds like you got tint mixed into your clear coat, that isnt coming off without sandpaper and respraying the clearcoat.
The remover gelled your clearcoat and some of the tint got into it, sorry.. but it sounds like you're hosed.

Not sure what kind of paint you used but you could try Oops. I used it on my truck when I wife drove against a fence and got white paint down the side. I know it works on latex but not sure about others. Worth a shot though.

aha the lacquer thinner didn't even do anything at all to the car or the lights this has just been a nightmare im going to auto zone right now and if that doesn't work ill get pics and put them up but if it does ill be ecstatic!!
i tried cropping em and switching them around...iPhones camera is the hardest to work with so i apologize for that...carb cleaner and rubbing compound ( recommended by people at kragen) did not work =(
hope the pictures help...the only thing at this point i think the pictures can do is confirm that im an idiot and im screwed...!! =(
and to the above post...i didnt notice the thinner drying up too fast it seemed to be wet as long i tried until i gave up

150 where and yeh i tried the carb cleaner first thing this morning...i went to the oxnard a city up from mine where everything cheaper and first place the guy said 1000 and went down to 850 my cars WWP so everywhere around here at least is charging a lot more....but damn =( ....its on 4 panels as well...
did you try a rotary with good polish or compound? ill try a rotary with a wool pad and a compound first and see what it does. if that dont do it try wet sanding and then hit it with a rotary. did it go through the clear?
Oh ya, if you have a buffer its on...hit it with 1500 or 2000 and buff, and you are done. The sides and trunklid should clean up easy, the bumper gets it worse because it can sit and eat into it. If you werent 3000 miles away Id show ya how its done. It looks like childs play to me, I have fixed worse without repaint (as long as clear isnt totally gone, which bodyshop will tell ya it is either way).
