HOw bad..

I just noticed I'm 200 miles over my due oil change. During the 3000 miles I put 1 qt of new oil. But its time to get it changed and no where is open right now and they won't take me in for a few days.

I'm trying to not drive the car but its my DD so its kinda hard.

So is it really really hurting the engine?

No, even if it gets close to 4k, no harm done.

Don't worry about the small stuff.......

Don't sweat it. I change anywhere from 3k - 5k and the manual recommends 7.5k.

if the car is new, its bad. the newer it is the earlier you MUST change it.
if youre high mileage its less bad.
the older the engine, the less metal particles in the oil, just make sure you still have oil in there.

have you ever read your manual?

mazda recommends you change your oil every 7,500 if you have normal driving habits. 5,000 miles if you are a more spirited driver.

I do mine a little differently.

After drain, I will close the nut first, pour like a quart of cheap *Shell Full Synthetic* into it first and drain it again. just to get as much crap from the bottom of the pan as possible. then I will change the washer, retighten everything and fill it up with Red Line.

sending off samples for testing at every oil change for me has shown that you are wasting money doing oil changes on a Reni at anything under 5000 miles. based on sending oil out for testing; right around 6K miles Castrol 5W30 seems to start loosing viscosity and get to a point that a over concerned RX-8 owner would start to consider a change.

But don't take my word for it. The only way to be sure is to send your oil off for testing.

But unless you have a Turbo or some other forced induction or use crappy oil; you are throwing money away changing the oil and filter at 3K miles.
