HOw bad..

I just noticed I'm 200 miles over my due oil change. During the 3000 miles I put 1 qt of new oil. But its time to get it changed and no where is open right now and they won't take me in for a few days.

I'm trying to not drive the car but its my DD so its kinda hard.

So is it really really hurting the engine?

Go48 08-02-2008 02:37 PM

NO! Don't make it a habit.:)

StealthTL 08-02-2008 02:38 PM

No, even if it gets close to 4k, no harm done.

Don't worry about the small stuff.......

Whew! lol This is the first time I ever went a mile over 3k

Thanks guys.

04RX8man 08-02-2008 04:37 PM

no you are perfectlly fine i have went 4k or more acutally our motors are better to go over in mileage than a regular pison engine becuase we are adding new every oil change but def don't make it a habit

Don't sweat it. I change anywhere from 3k - 5k and the manual recommends 7.5k.

PBlue 08-04-2008 08:49 AM

if the car is new, its bad. the newer it is the earlier you MUST change it.
if youre high mileage its less bad.
the older the engine, the less metal particles in the oil, just make sure you still have oil in there.

kersh4w 08-04-2008 10:50 AM

have you ever read your manual?

mazda recommends you change your oil every 7,500 if you have normal driving habits. 5,000 miles if you are a more spirited driver.

xsnipersgox 08-04-2008 11:27 AM

these numbers are really a guideline, it's not a death sentense...

quazmosis 08-04-2008 11:32 AM

Back in the olden days, you'd be tared and feathered for that kinda behavior.

CompMan 08-04-2008 11:50 AM

hahaha
04 with 52k, I just like to change it every 3k.

Thanks for the funny comments though makes me feel better about driving it. Gunna make an appointment now anyways!

dozer 08-04-2008 01:21 PM

just do it yourself.....5qts at walmart = 11$ plus filter = 3~15$....

04RX8man 08-04-2008 03:30 PM

yeah do it yourself.....but here in FL 5qt's of castrol gtx at walmart is 12$ and 3.83 or so for a filter about 15 bucks and 15 minutes of your time to do it yourself

nycgps 08-04-2008 03:38 PM

I do mine a little differently.

After drain, I will close the nut first, pour like a quart of cheap *Shell Full Synthetic* into it first and drain it again. just to get as much crap from the bottom of the pan as possible. then I will change the washer, retighten everything and fill it up with Red Line.

CompMan 08-04-2008 04:39 PM

Well I'm gunna get my tranny fluid changed and radiator fluid changed at the same time.

dozer 08-04-2008 04:45 PM

tranny fluid = redline, only the best for your 8 ;)

Icemark 08-04-2008 05:24 PM

sending off samples for testing at every oil change for me has shown that you are wasting money doing oil changes on a Reni at anything under 5000 miles. based on sending oil out for testing; right around 6K miles Castrol 5W30 seems to start loosing viscosity and get to a point that a over concerned RX-8 owner would start to consider a change.

But don't take my word for it. The only way to be sure is to send your oil off for testing.

But unless you have a Turbo or some other forced induction or use crappy oil; you are throwing money away changing the oil and filter at 3K miles.

Deathcraft 08-04-2008 05:27 PM

I'm just speechless!
