Exclamation RX8 stalls while under idle?

So I should mention I do have the greddy turbo kit first off. The problem I'm having is that the car shuts off or dies once im driving and let off the throtttle to idle. It doesnt happen when I first start the car but once I'm driving it seems as if the car doesnt idle correctly and dies whenever I let off the gas. I also heard a clacking noise coming from around the intake manifold area? This noise went away but I'm still curious...

any ideas on what the problem is?

Thanks....

Have you had the compression checked lately?

You might have a problem with the apex seals, I could be wrong tho.

Mine did the same thing around 50K miles, and as Vasichko pointed out it was indeed caused by my apex seals. Mazda extended the warranty on the engine so you can get a new engine if you're under 100K. I had to have my engine replaced, ignition coils replaced and ignition wires replaced - all expenses paid for by Mazda.

Would a vaccuum leak cause clanking noise? I dont think Ive ever heard of anything like that.

To the OP: Unless you want to be shady you can remove the turbo and try to get it warrantied. Or you can contact Mazmart and they can get you a rebuild for $3500 or so.

Engine can die off idle if there is a vacuum leak.

but of course, it could be other causes.

Are you using the piece of crap greddy intake? the MAF is really sensitive to turbulence.

I had a screen before the MAF sensor and that took care of the Idle issues, when the kit was first installed.

Also check for Vacuum leaks.

I have the same problem with my car and cant find out what the problem is!

Its 2004 RX8 6sp with 38k! I have a K&N intake! When i start the car a hold bunch of smoke comes out and i have to push the gas to about 4,000 RPMs while i turn the key to turn on the car or else it would go to about 500 RPMs and shut off after 2sec! After i warmed it up for abot 6mon stepping on the gas at 4,000 RPMs the idle hows from 1,500 rpms to about 700 rpms by itself and sometimes it just shuts off! When i went to get it checked out at mazda and they told me it can the cause can be of the K&N intake since it can produce improper MAF signal when the car is at idle and they even gave me a paper that the techs use that explains the symtoms!Mazda told me to turn it back to stock r get a mazdaspeed CAI snd see if the fixes the problem! They ran it through their computer alsoand got my ECU flashed to the lasted software that day! Well i came back home and removed the K&N and cleaned the MAF because i saw a post eh K&N filters can dirty the MAF with carbon build up so i did that and nothing! I have my Mazdaspeed CAI coming next week but i dought that would fix my problem! Help guys!!

ur problem doesnt sound the same with that guy. urs is NA and K&N FILTER sure doesnt resist dirt as good as stock. however, carbon build up on the MAF sensor sounds a little stupid.
i think urs is caused by bad coils and spark plugs. and it also could be SSV stuck open due to carbon build up on the intake manifold.

im guessing intake and MAF sensor ...if u start it and its ok but dies when u idle after u drive fast , im guessing the seals holding your intake is lose ...or air is leaking ...

Well i think i just found the problem, i have a bad MAF sensor! I took off the sensor will the car was one and everyting seem find but white smoke still came out the exhaust since the MAF controls all of the air that goes in the chamber and them plugged my sensor back in and the car started stalling and turned off! Its the MAF sensor alright!!

yeah i would think about doing a compression test see if you can rent/borrow a compression tester from a dealer or someting (since yo have the turbo) if it is ur motor it will not b covered under warranty with the turbo but like someone said above you could b shady and remove and try and warranty it(if it's the motor that is)

i have this same problem except this symptom only happens when i disconnect the battery or reflash the ecu. That basically causes a computer reset making it seem like its the first time being started. After around 30-40 miles of driving it goes away? After that i never have the problem again. Do i have an actual problem or does the ecu need to detect whats the proper idle after resetting the computer
