AEM Engine Management System

Does anyone here have any experience with AEM EMS? Specifically for the rx8 would help. I'm looking for a basic review of the system. Is it worth it or not and all that jazz.

The accessport looks to be a very good product and for very cheap. But having said that I'm getting interested in creating the maps for myself. AEM is insanely more expensive but I'm just very curious about it. Lets just say that I get the access port and I wish to play around with some of the settings myself. I can't. Just wondering really.

^ and what is your opinion from your Honda days?

I'll probably end up getting the accessport in the end, but I'd just like to explore options is all.

I had an AEM universal sitting here on my bench for almost 2 years.
They don't support our ESS, so you can't use it.
Even so, programming one is very difficult.
It is one of the most versatile EMS units out there.
If you don't have a TON of experience with those sort of things, you have absolutely no hope of getting it to work well - even if you could get around the ESS.

I've done AEM setups on the RX-7 and the Evo. Its really, really deep.

So basically what you're saying is that I'm going to be contacting you shortly to purchase my Accessport. Thank you very much for explaining that too me. Saves me a **** load of cash too.

The AEM unit is really deep like Mazdamaniac said, I liked it and I was able to put down 248whp on my N/A civic with it and I couldn't seem to do that with any of the other engine managements out at the time. But for the RX8 the more I've been reading I would go for the Accessport, I'm just waiting patiently for it to be released for the Europe cars.

The AEM EMS is powerful, but it also has an overwhelming number of tables and parameters to configure, and I don't care for the interface. The FD basemap for the car for example is well-known to be junk. Most rotary guys prefer Haltech, Autronic, or even Motec.

And on the '8, you have the drive-by-wire system, injector staging, and other application-specific stuff to deal with. There is nothing more powerful than a stock ECU these days. It's just that sometimes you even reach the limitations of that hardware and you have to move on to something else and rewire the whole car.

You can consider F-Con V-Pro.(Dont hit me MM!)

I've seen it once when I was in Hong Kong last year, it support Rx-8 totally, but I felt dizzy when I see the kind of settings that they have. so I left the store lol

Hymee's SPT

Have you guys considered Hymee's Scanalyser Pro Tuner? It allows you to edit every single editable parameter in the ECU and create your own maps. Fuel, Ignition, RPM Limit, Fan temp, OMP to name a few.
Its got 3D mapping and great GUI. Hymee actually gives you 3 softwares in one package: Scanalyser Pro Tuner, Scanalyser Live USB and Prologger (similar to EFIdude logger).
Its the only Flash tuning software that supports US, AU, European & JDM RX-8.

also the AccessPort's StreetTUNER software is rumored to be releasing sooner rather than later....(relatively)

with that you can do like Hymee's.... powerful datalogging, and editing of every parameter

looking forward to seeing Hymee's as well though!

I've been a Scanalyser Pro Tuner Beta from the beginning. The software is 90% complete and will allow you to tune the RX-8 ECU for NA or FI. I had to wait for Hymee to release updates every week as he literally built it from scratch.
Anyone can contact him if interested.
The only pain now is to identify maps we need, as only a handful (fuel, timing, fan temp, rpm limit etc) has been identified. Theres over 500 maps/tables inside the RX-8 ECU!!

Its just the waiting game now. Although AP seems to be more user friendly, so I hope the software is as well.

You are absolutely right, so is the case with the Hymee Scananlyser Pro Tuner.

By the way MM, I'm trying to wire transfer some funds for BHR stuff to Charles, but he suggested to send it to you. Knowing your inbox must be flooded I'd like to request you to PM me the bank info. Please speak to Charles for confirmation.
Thanks.
