Locking lug nuts

Hey, quick question.

Somehow I bent my lug nut key so it doesn't fit. Are the keys all the same between the RX-8s?

Easiest thing to do is either buy the tool to remove them yourself, or go to a wheel/tire place and have them do it for you. I decided to buy the tool and it cost around 40 dollars, 1 tool to remove the locking nuts and 1 to remove regular lug nuts that have been stripped. Plus, I now have the tools to do it if it ever happens again.

I hate locking lug nuts. Same thing happened to me; I eventually got mine off (went to a shop) and replaced them with normal lug nuts.

The 8's locking nuts suck ***. There should be a sticky in this forum just to tell people that is should be the first wheel upgrade you should get.

Can you clarify on that Jedi? I'm not the original owner so I wouldn't know. I looked online and you can buy a set of 4 locking nuts and a key for $32 from Onlinemazdaparts, so it seems strange that every one would be different.

There's only around 8 different locks. Just go to your dealer and see if they have a master lock.

I love my McGard spline lugs: http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/mcgard.htm

The lugs are two piece, so the bottom part that touches the rim doesn't spin and grind into the rim as you tighten.

I ended up just ordering a new key at the dealer. They have a set that the techs use and will come and see which one fits if you need to order a new one. The local dealer wanted about ~$24 for the key though, so if you had the tool to remove them without key, or wanted new locking nuts, it would make fiscal sense to do that instead. The dealer orders them from the company that makes them, not Mazda, fyi.
