Rough Idle in Drive, but not Neutral...Normal?

I have an AT 04 and when the car is in drive the idle is really rough as long as I'm on the brakes (not moving). In neutral or park the shake goes away. It's not a bad fuel or air shake, more like one you'd notice when you change to solid motor mounts or something is off balance in the rotating assembly. I don't have any idiot lights going off and the car is stock. Also, the car was current on recalls when I bought it on 13 March of this year.

is this normal or something I should have looked at?

Cody to tell you the truth this was happening to mine, and the idle was rougher after i installed the intake. But what helped me a lot was when i did the MSP-16 Reflash. It's a TSB that mazda sent out for the owners of rx8's from '04 and up..just take it into to your dealer and let them know whats going on and this might help. Mine would actually get a rough idle and shutt off when it was really hot at times, but when i did the reflash it has not happened since. As long as your car is still under 60k miles or 5 yrs of purchase you should be ok.

The MSP-16 Reflash is free even if your out of warranty its a recall not a TSB so if you havent had the reflash go to the dealer and get it done. I also have an 04 AT and had the same problems while in drive and the reflashed helped the rough idle.

Had the same exact problem, it was solved with new motor mounts. There is a TSB re: this issue. Mine was done last week and its very smooth now, Mine is a 2004 AT and the vibration was especially rough upon AM startup. Have dealer check your VIN against this TSB.
