Ok so i got bumped...took my car to the bodyshop on monday...they call me today and are like...hey...is there any trick to starting your car...immediately i knew they f'ed it up.../they cranked it last night to move it into the shop and went to crank it this morning to move it to paint and it wouldn't start...way to not let my car warm up before you turn the damn thing off...in 75,000 miles it has NEVER been flooded...

they say they are going to get it running...and take it to the dealer if they can't...i'm just worried i'm gonna get stuck with them "getting it running" and then it flooding on me and me being responsible for getting it fixed right...just had to vent!

 

get the DIY to deflodd, print it out and give it to the bodyshop, so they can do the labor, and u've just showed them how.

 

i'm ******* nervous about them doing ANYTHING to my car now...seriously worried they are gonna **** something up trying to fix it themselves...obviously there isn't anyone there familiar with a rotory engine at all....they supposidly called a dealership and talked to them about it...i'm worried they are going totry to pull and clean the plugs and then possibly put them in the wrong place or something like that!

 

Don't worry about, really. It'll be fixed, and it'll run as if nothing happened. I did a noob flood this past winter, took care of it, everythings fine. Tell them the plugs need to be replaced. Obviously they know nothing about a rotary so they'll believe whatever YOU tell them about unflooding it.

 

well they guy talked to one of his "dealer" buddies and he told him something about soapy water...into the engine...isn't water just going to further decrease compression leading to still no run???

 

Did you tell the body shop to let the car warm up before shutting it off or to rev the engine to about 3k and then turn off to prevent flooding? Secondly you can not mess up with the plugs. The NGK plugs come with a L and T on them and the engine block is marked as well. Just change the plugs and the car will start right up no big deal. Last time i heard water in the engine is no good.

 

They didn't know enough so they flooded it. Now they know enough to UNflood it? A "dealer buddy" told them something about soapy water in the engine?

Sorry but I would be very anxious too. Why not simply have them pay to get it towed to the nearest dealer and have the dealer fix it?

This way they won't call you back in a few days with your engine full of soapy water, fouled plugs, a buster starter and an empty battery.

 

By sopy water they're thhinking de-carbonizing the engine. Search seafoam! Totally different from flooding

 

The plugs are easy to change go to www.autopartswarehouse.com and get them for 85 dollars shipped and put them in yourself. The dealer will charge you over a 100 just for the plugs then you have labor. Just remember when you put the new plugs in to put a little anti seize on the plug thread and not to mix up the spark plug wires. The easiest way to change the plugs is to take off the front driver side well and remove the black flap and the plugs will be right there.

 

Print out a few of these and keep them in your glove box for just such occasions.

i just did the very same thing (but with different wording). I searched the Interwebz for something from Mazda, but no luck. With the logo, yours looks authentic!

When I took my car to the bodyshop last Monday, I stuck mine on a 3 x 4" card over the radio. When I picked up the car today - no flooding (but a lot less gas in the tank).

 

Go48...i know have about 20 of those printed and in a file folder to put behind my passenger seat to pull out as needed....i did warm the guys at the bodyshop that they MUST let it warm all the way up and that they MUST rev it up to 3grand to prevent flooding it as well...did they listen...obviously not...i convinced them that they needed to take it to the dealership...they are towing it there this morning and hopefully i will have my baby back this afternoon!!! this mitsubishi lancer ex is just way too fast and nice for me (obvious sarcasm....)

 

now the body shop is trying to say that i didn't warn them about any "special handling procedures" when it came to my car...and that i now have a $409 bill at the dealership...i told them that i felt that was ridiculous and that i would be willing to split it but **** this sucks...stupid bodyshop

 

When I got my windows tinted last year I made sure to tell the guys there that. Good thing too cuz he said he never heard of the flooding prevention procedure

**** that, go get a lawyer. I had mine in to remove a door ding about a month ago and the same thing happened, only they kept trying to start it and blew out the starter and crank sensor before letting me know something happened, then got a $1,300 bill from the dealer. I didn't pay a dime of it.

Rotaries can flood, period. They've been around 20+ years on mainstream cars, and if they don't know about them as a business that specializes in auto repair it's their own damn fault.

 

can someone tell me...which one is going to be cheaper...paying 200 bucks or getting a lawyer for the issue...i've never had to get one

 

i would personally try to bluff first and tell them that you aren't going to pay a cent and that you will be taking them to small claims court if they don't pay. the car was in their possession, they mucked it up and now they have to pay for it. ignorance is not a legal defense.

 

I had my RX-8 in the body shop last week after someone backed into my front bumper at a stop sign. Besides warning the body shop owner when I dropped off the car I also printed the attached and taped it over the radio.

I got the car back OK, no flood.
