I am really like RX-8 , and the new 2009 RX-8 looks really good . I plan to buy a new RX-8 but some friends told me , after you drive RX-8 over 100,000 km , the engine must be rebuild .
And in our country , the service of MAZDA RX-8 is not so good , even some small problem , they have to ask support from MAZDA Japan . If really need to rebuild engine after drive 100,000 km , I'm not sure the MAZDA service center can do it ...
So , I'd like to know the rotor engine must be rebuild or not after 100,000 km ?

There are many club members who have 100K already. Where are you from? Use the search function and you will find a lot on this topic. Maintenance is the key.

Agreed. I've seen engines last over 200k miles without a rebuild *don't know what that is to km...* but if you take care of your engine, you'll be A OK.

 

Buy the car, perform ALL scheduled maintenance (lots of people here change their oil between 3k and 5k miles), check oil level at least bi-weekly and "listen" to what the car tells you. It will normally let you know when something isnt right or in need of attention either by a CEL light, a noise, a feel, ect. When(if) something like this happens, be sure to address it quickly and you should be fine. Ignoring any of these and you will most likely end up paying for it in the end. In China, they may tax your vehicle very highly after you top a certain amount of mileage. If you rebuild the engine or replace the car, you avoid this.

 

I had an RX3 that had 230,000 MILES! Not Km., Miles. Yes it drank oil. But we didn't have a mosquito problem in our town.
A friend had an RX7 with 180,000 miles that ran great. Sipped a bit of crude, but no more than other cars with high miles. My RX7 was stolen with only 23,000 miles so I can't comment on that one.

i bought mine with 61000 on it and its starting/driving everyday with no problems.
what is the best way to keep the rotary in shape?
dealers changed the oil/filter before i took it and previous owner had just serviced it. i rev it to about 7-8000 rpm at least once a day, and after driving in traffic, 30, 40 mph zones, as i have read that its good to blow out the carbon and keep the engine in good shape.

is this ok, what advice would you recommend to keep an engine running to dare i say it 200000 plus miles, i'm very new to the rotary so wanna know the right way to drive it to keep it in good shape.

Drive it like a sports car man! My rx7 was babied it's whole life, the previous owner told me, plus he put in shitty synthetic oil which does not help. She died at roughly 109k miles. I'm confident this particular one would have easily gone 150k+ with great compression, being a turbo and all, if it was driven properly.

 

Considering synthetic oils are better oils and a wonderful to use in a rotary, your engine problems were not based off of them. The problem was the engine was babied too much.

 

I had a '89 N/A RX-7 with over 230k miles. I had this car when I was young and poor so it had little or no maintenance. I went through 3 clutches but everything else was ok until I finally blew a seal. I then drove it for several weeks with what felt like a 1/4 of the power before permanently parking it.

 

I had no experiance in rotary's after the first gen. RX-7. Mine was an '83. I bought it because my 1978 Fiat X1/9 was on what I thought was it's last leg. Well it lasted four more years and I bearly put any miles on the Mazda. When it was stolen it was 10 years old with only 23K miles. I had just started driving it since i got the Fiat airbourne and broke the motor mount right off the body when it came back to earth. I miss both those cars.

 

I meant he put really low quality, cheaply bought, lame brand synthetic oil in. I know that a higher quality oil, with a lower ash content works wonders in our little dynamos

I am choosing a new car now , RX-8 and G35 (Infiniti , in some country named Skyline 350GT Nissan ) , G35 has a 'Powerful' engine , really good !

 

I wouldn't say the VQ35 is "powerful" ...

G35 really has a excellent engine , 3.5L , 306PS . I know in Japan , RX-8 has about 250PS , but in China , Mazda change a little bit of RX-8 's engine , only 230PS....
