Hi,
My son has a 04 RX8 and his Factory Warranty expires at the end of March. How does he or can he, extend his Warranty for another 4 years. Would it be better to go with an aftermarket warranty company or with Mazda? Any advice would be appreciated.

Usually you'll get mail send to you from different companies ready to offer you a warranty . Just make sure you read the small print . You could also call your Mazda dealer and see what they have to offer , with is probably your best bet .

To me, extended warranty is *already* a rip off.

but still, if for some reason you try to extend it, I STRONGLY suggest you to go with Mazda Extended warranty only. Even when you go to the dealership and ask them about it, they *might* still trying to sell you some 3rd party company's extended warranty, do NOT , I say DO NOT get those.

Get ONLY Mazda's own extended warrranty and nothing else.

Also, you should have your son come up here, and tell him to READ all the tips and guides on how to keep the car running.

 

^^ That's good advice. If you're sure you want to extend the warranty do NOT get aftermarket company. Too many stories of them denying repairs.

Even so, I also think that extended warranties are a waste of money to the consumer. You're paying for a potential repair that may be denied. Extended warranties are money-makers for those who provide them. Save your money and pay out-of-pocket if an issue comes up. Just don't take it to the dealership. Their labor rate is very high and doing simple repairs make the "warranty" look good, but in reality a good shop can do it for much less.

 

I agree with them. Try to go with a Mazda extended warranty if you must. Read the fine print either way like Reaper1 said.

 

I kind of wondered the same thing. My mother cosigned on my car and made me get the 4 year extended warranty through the nissan dealer where I bought the car. I didn't want too, but she kind of cornered me.

I ended up with Nissans quality guard plus that allows me to take it to any dealer, the fine print looked fine. I think it was around $1000 for four years or 60,000 more miles.

 

mazda will not extend ur warranty. at least thats what they told me at the dealership. They explained extended warranties r only offered when u first buy the car. After u roll it off the lot, you loose that option hence ull have to go with an aftermarket one. I went with warranty Direct. hopefully ill never have to use them

 

You should be able to go into any Mazda dealer (I work at one) and purchase an extended warranty.
There are many types available-from just a 100K certification (if their service dept. is good enough to offer one) to a full service contract. I would contact the finance dept. at any Mazda dealer near you.

 

I believe they are on;y offered if it's new.

Aftermarket ones suck.

 

I think you need to find a new dealership.

I went to mine a few days before my original warranty expired (and I am the second owner) and bought the extended factory warranty, with same coverage as the original warranty.

Of course part of what influenced me to extend it was three transmission rebuilds they had to do at the time. That would not have been cheap to do, dealership or not.

Good point and I've been working with him to learn basic oil change, air filter, plugs and minor repairs. He helped me 2weeks ago, to install Borla and a Tunnel plate on my Vette, so he's learning a little about wrenching. His Radio LED Display just went blank on him last weekend and we took it in to the dealer this morning and they ordered a new board and will replace it next week, so having the dealer do some work under warrranty is nice. Depending on the price of the Factory Warrany and Warranty Direct, we may pick up a couple years for him while he's still in school, otherwise I'll help him set up a Wrench Fund. Thanks for all the advice.

I called mazda customer care yesterday. I was actually asking about my NAV system but this thread came in mind. I asked if it's possible to get extended warranty and how much.

She checked my VIN, and said I'm out of basic warranty (65k miles) and the only warranty I currently have is 80k miles emission thing. Then she said it's impossible for me to get an extended warranty because I'm out of warranty already. It's possible to get it extended if you're still under factory warranty or bought it new from dealership.

That's what she said.

 

^weird. so, if i'm over the 4yr/48k warranty, but still within the extended 5yr/60k (for '04s) warranty, can i extend mine? the finance guy at my dealership just told me i could, but maybe he was just bs'ing to get me in there...???

 

Well, I talked to the Finance guy at Oak Tree Mazda today and he said as long as its still under Factory warranty and hasn't expired, he can extend it. On the phone he said 48months for $1600 but in person he wrote on the contract 60months for $1600. I like the latter of the two better. He also said the difference between a 1yr, 2yr, 3yr and 4yr is only about $50. difference so its better to go with the 4yr. He appears to be good in Finanace, Marketing and Sales. decisions, decisions. Any thoughts or suggestions from anyone else?

That not bad . It come out to 320 a year , not bad at all.

The question is do you have to pay it all at once , make monthly payments or pay $320 once a year . By the way , whats cover ? Read the small print , hire a lawyer if you have to , lol .

Ok... I echo NYC Cops... aftermarket warranties, if they pay for a claim will almost always puyt a JUNKYARD part in the car. That is a big difference from a Mazda remanufactured part like you'd get with a Mazda Warranty. The factory warranty will in fact give you brand new parts in most instances.

So, if you get one, get a Mazda one. And I agree with the Finance guy(I was one at a Mazda store) you might as well buy as long as possible, they make it work better that way.

Mazda does not have a manner of financing warranties that I'm aware of, I know that Honda Finance does, for their warranties. A credit card may be your only manner of "financing" the warranty.
