Hi, I am interested in purchasing an RX8, I live in NY.

I found an Rx8 for sale at a Dealer not too far from me.

The Carfax says it has been in an accident, but isn't too detailed, and from what I could see there was no frame damage, as well as the owner kept it another 2 years afterwards, so I doubt there was much issue.

There also seems to be some modifications already done to the car, Intake for sure, seems as though the exhaust or just exhaust tips have been changed (wasn't able too see too much under it).

Now heres the thing. Dealer is asking 15,900 for it. which I think is kinda nuts for that Mileage, and mods usually bring the price of the car down, not up (especially since neither they nor I know exactly what was done. There is also some Blue switch to the left of the steering wheel which, could be for anything, but is definitely not stock.

Long story short, does anyone know of this car (its been to Jersey, and PA, and is in NY right now)? I mainly want to know whats been done to it Mod wise, and regarding the damage from that accident? Also anything else I should look for?

 

Price seems a little steep for that many miles....

 

It's the Touring package. Visible mods/cosmetics: obv exhaust, RX-8 label over brake light, colored rear, fender strakes. Really just listing the obvious, not much to tell from the pictures of just the outside. Did you pop the hood? Have a mechanic look it. Test drive it. Have the price lowered. Make sure there's tread on the tires otherwise you know it was beaten on, which it most likely has been. AND find out why it's gone from state to state.

I'm definitely going to Drive it, probably tomorrow. I did pop the hood and thats when I saw what appeared to be some kind of intake, but it definitely wasn't stock I also saw a fabricated, air intake located under the front bumber. I'll take more pics tomorrow, maybe somebody here will recognize the mods done to it and can tell me if it will pass inspection.

P.S. don't feel bad, the Patriots are still a perfect team, they're just a perfect team that lost the superbowl to a crappy team hehe. GO GIANTS!!!

wouldnt recommend buying an 04.. try to get at least an 06, something with warranty left on it.. if you have your heart set on that one, at least make them fix the taillights..

Dude, dont get that.

My suggestion is go to different mazda dealers and check stock for 07s.

When i was MS3 shopping in december, they had 2 07 rx8s that they were letting go for 17-18k because they needed to get rid of them. They were dead stock. I should have gotten it just cause thats a deal and a half but i really wanted an MS3 at the time.

 

Well thats what they're asking but that definitely won't be what I pay. I think its worth maybe 13-14 tops. The accident report on carfax has no reference on frame damage, and I'm gonna have a mechanic look at it first. We'll see. BTW the only thing wrong with the tail lights is its a little foggy, but I believe thats because it has been sitting for a little while.

Trust me I am looking for an 07, but the few that I have seen all have NAV, which im gonna rip out anyway to put in a PC. and most still want 20k+ for it, If you or anyone else sees a touring 07 for sale for anything less than 18 in NY let me know.

i wouldn't get that car. go get one under warranty, they are many available.

BTW I can get a 2 year warranty put on it if i want to, but at this point I think im gonna go with one of the 10+ guys who PMed me trying to sell theirs lol.

Get inside, turn the key to 'on' and play with the switch. It's gotta do SOMETHING.
Probably just controls lights somewhere. If it were a ****, it might be a remote bass control but a switch tells me electronics of some sort.

 

It could be for a stereo, radar, etc., but most likely for Nitous Oxide.

Remove the engine cover, check to see if there is a plug in the MAF tube.

Look for a point of entry for Nitrous.

If the car had Nitrous don't touch it.

If you do not know what to look for stay away from that car.

 

From the pictures I would say it's definately someone from this forum.

ya know what, at this point. Im not even gonna bother with this car. Its not worth the hassle, and with all of you pretty much telling me not to, I;d be a fool to do so.

I did mention NOS, but my friend said it was probably strobe lights or some such BS.

I did flip the switch with the battery activated, but the car has no gas in it, so I couldn't really listen, I was gonna try it again during the test drive, but its not worth it right now. If the owner comes forward maybe... otherwise. not worth it.

However I do appreciate all the help and advice given here, and you will see me around, because the only car I love more than the 8, is an Exige, and thats out of my cashflow range right now lol.

it looks like either lil_benny's old car or rx-siv......who got his car from bart!.....either way that wouldnt have been nitrous but i wouldnt do it.....the light damage could be either and the fact that its relatively local because it could have gone from auction to auction without being titled.....

Still looking? What part of NY you in? I am in Rochester. I have an 04, no mods, 75k on body but 13+ on new motor. It was replaced after dealer could not figure out power loss problems. Runs sweet but does have some body, wheel rash issues commensurate with 75k upstate year round miles.
