how to modify stock air box

i seen most people are modifying the stock airbox. ive read alot on CAI. and it seems like they really havent added power. how can i modify my airbox. i have a 2007 rx8 that i got about 4 months ago. i am an owner of a 87 rx7 also :D. i love the rotary.. please let me know thank you

There are two things that seem to be commonly modified on the stock airbox. First, you can remove the two baffles on either side of the air horn, they serve primarily to reduce noise. Second, you can remove one or both of the metal screens used to straighten the airflow for the MAF. However, some people report a rough idle, vibrations, etc, when removing the screens, especially if you take out both.

thanks for ther link, ill have to investigate the air box this weekend. where abouts in florida are you? im about 30 min. north of west palm? do you guys have any AFl meets?

when you do that mod, take both screens out first. if you idle is bad, put the screen closest to the MAF back in.
