I got some new OEMs from sparkplugs.com.

I believe they are already gapped and there is no real need to re-gap......................and see this thread.

My plugs arrived with gaps set and guards over the threads to protect the gap setting

If they are the oem type(NGK), the gap is already set and doesn't need to be adjusted.

The way to check them is with a wire gapper as opposed to feeler gauges. I always check mine and have found them routinely out-of-spec.

How many miles do you have on them. I change mine at 33K, witch is before they are called for. They looked great and the gap was still right on. Is it idling smooth? Have you ever flooded it? They are pre-gaped at .048, but always check them with wire feeler Gage. Its worth checking with a two dollar tool before you put them in.

Ive got 28k miles on mine. I have had a rough idle for the past 2 weeks or so, sometimes it seems fine other times it seems rough.

I figure Ill just rule everything out and do plugs, coils, and I have some 10mm Magnacore wires Im gonna throw on there.

I put in new plugs yesterday. The biggest wire gapper I could find was .45". All of them were over .45". I had the NGK plugs from a Mazda dealer. All had the adjustable electrode.

My old plugs, trailing had 25K on them, leading (bottom) had 30K:

Astral, those look good!
You weren't having any issues with your engine were you?
Mine looked just like yours and were replaced for preventive maintenance.

Those old plugs look good? Hmm, I guess so.

I was not having any issues. This is just regular maintenance. I didn't want to let my leading plugs go over 30K miles (schedule II maintenance is to replace plugs every 30K).

My coils look similar to your coils (actually a bit less burnt). I replaced them preventively anyways.

Things do seem to run smoother and pickup a touch better. That's probably due to completely clean plugs.

You must drive your car like I drive mine

I just put in RB plug wires today and those seem to have made a difference to the feel of the engine; It seems smoother now... could be all in my head.
